Blacks joke around about the eccentricities of blacks. Jews joke around about the eccentricities of jews. I think it's healthy for aspies to joke around about the eccentricities of aspies.

I'd go so far as to say that comedians have done more to promote understanding between ethnic and cultural groups than rights activists.

I think a lot of people on wrongplanet, myself definitely included, can personally benefit by sitting back, relaxing, and having a laugh at ourselves.

Considering the size of the aspie/autistic community, I'd say we have a severe shortage of comedians, and judging from the excessively serious and dismal tone of so much of what goes on at wrongplanet, I'd say we can definitely benefit from them.

When I say "we," I'm including myself. It's healthy for me to lighten up sometimes.

richardbenson, with his straightforward, irreverent, and utterly outrageous style, is one of our best comedians, and I think he should be valued accordingly for the vital contribution he makes to this community.

The most important things you can leave your children are a sense of humor, a love of reading, and a large fortune. Since I don't have the third, I've tried to leave them an excess of the other two.

well thank you canyonwind, if you cant laugh at yourself and others why be so serious all the time? i'm a clown because its obviously a nasty coping mechinasim ive develouped. when i made the thread about "what you hate about aspies" it wasnt ment to be so serious, since im never really a serious guy unless its about something i like. frankly im starting to think that most of you walk around with scowls on your face all day long. how can you live like this?

I'm here because it's all new. After a lifetime of crawling and groveling and chasing that stupid carrot and trying to play their game and watching things go from bad to worse, I need to do some serious thinking and re-defining and venting and PUTTING THE BLAME WHERE IT BELONGS. And it belongs with the oppressive majority, not with me.

So here I am, more analytical than ever, more straight-forward than ever, more the-emperor-is-naked than ever, more pissed off than I have ever been.

Eventually, I'll "get over it," in that I'll be able to joke about it more often. But when that happens, I might start drifting away from WP.

But for now, it's their fault.

I'm an older guy, and I understand what the word "lifetime" means. It's perfectly okay to get mad here, and you can vent all you want.

But anything you can laugh about hasn't beaten you yet.

I am in favor of humor, and if we cannot express our point of view here, then where?

I have always been told I am different, which I take to mean everyone else is the same, and I do feel so sorry for them, I do have empathy for their self inflicted suffering in stupidity.
