Hi...this is my first day here, I went to check #wrongplanet and it says that my address is banned...I'm confused, as this is my first time ever trying to get in there. Is the entire AZ cox network banned?

I think an IP banning is usually temporary.

Sadly, we have been forced to ban all Tucson, AZ cox users (and those on the same subnet as them) to keep out a known pedophile. He has a history of praying on young autistic boys and girls, and law enforcement has been quite unresponsive to the times that channel operators have contacted them about it and provided logs (none of our contacts had any follow up).

He regularly (sometimes weekly) tries to get back into the channel, and has been targeting other autism support chat rooms across the web for years. Because of how Cox's network works, sadly, we are forced to choose between allowing no one from that area in, and allowing him to slip back in simply by pretending to be someone else (he's even created new fake identities and fooled a few of the newer channel operators in the past into believing that it wasn't him, and made deals with others (GRRRRRR!! !! imho several of the channel ops need to go, but this isn't the place for that discussion!))

Are you sure that's effective? Surely he could proxy his way in if he felt the need..

I'm sure it's not ideal, but so far, he frequently has been connecting without making such efforts (and being handled by that ban). While it can be evaded, it is the best we can do in an imperfect situation and so far it is effective (and far more effective then nothing!)

In other words, they are totally incompetent and don't know how to handle situations. They have to ban a whole city just to keep one pedophile out, when I have witnessed almost every single night another predator just waltz in and basically take over chat for as long as he wants.

They run the room like its Police Chat and people are actually afraid to be themselves in there in fear of getting banned. However, on top of this, some can curse, accuse, troll, verbally manipulate, flood the room, etc, etc without EVER having to have a care.

And if you say something to their favored picks, YOU get not only kicked, but BANNED.

I wouldn't worry about that stupid little hole. Its not worth your thoughts.

Sorry, and you have notified us about this predator when? We all are working as vulnteers there, and we are not omnipotent.



Umm, no. Normally even my own Bot_0 is in channel to help keep an eye on things, but we are more then a little disrupted atm due to attacks by a former member of the channel, Taggard. Please see the channel rules at http://wp.lavitt.net and if there is a problem, please don't attack users yourself, rather get a channel op who is active to help you. Normally you can also just say "wpops" in channel, but alas, attack by taggard has disrupted this capability.

As to what happened, you attacked LinuxKitten, she got mad and started swearing at you, and retaliated, we stepped in, ordered both of you to stop. You kept on going, she got mad and was swearing at you again again and got back after you, though you had said several lines after being told to stop attacking her, so you were restarting it. You two were both told to stop, and it happened a second time, same order of events, hence she was given a very firm warning and talked with at length about how to correctly deal with problems, and you were removed for the day. Your ban would be lifted at this time, but unfortunately, I currently lack the ability to do so, thanks to the attack by Taggard, and Freenode blocking my IP in the ensuing confusion. I will be removing it as soon as staff correct the k-line.
