How do you quote single sentences?

I know how to quote a whole text.
But I don't know how to quote one sentence at a time.

1. Quote the whole text.
2. Delete everything except what you want to quote.
3. Place elipses ("...") wherever text was deleted (Optional. I do this. See above.).
4. Repeat as needed.

Or if you're feeling particularly techhie...

Copy and paste the posts and put

(quote) and (/quote)

around it. I've used circle brackets so they're not interpreted in this post, but you're supposed to use square ones.

If you go...

(quote="Yoda")Help you I can, Yes...(/quote)

but use square brackets, you'll get this effect...

That way you can mix and match quotes... but make sure that you match all your brackets and inverted commas.



and preview before you submit to avoid embarrassment.

BTW: I'll often compose my posts in Notepad because I find it faster to type and bracket match there.

Square brackets are commands... [ ]
Just enter the command you want, if it's supported so enter "quote" inside the square brackets "[]" and to finish you need to insert "[/ endcommand then bracket]"

It helps to do a preview to make sure it's right first

Yes, it's important to match up the start and end when quoting especially when quoting someone else's quote of someone else's quote of someone else's quote

I once got into an argument with someone on PPR because they had made it look like I had said something that someone else had said simply because they edited incorrectly trouble was someone else went on to quote him and then had a go at me for what I (hadn't) said. Sigh!

I don't mind defending my own comments on posts but I'm not going to defend someone else's comments being attributed to me.

Only one person has to work on the editing to post a message. If it is difficult to read, that applies to everyone who tries to read it. I you expect people to read your post, you should make an effort to make it easily readable.


I find posts with bits and pieces inserted as bold to be hard to follow, so I generally don't bother to try to decipher them. If the poster doesn't want to take the time to make their post be clearly readable, I see no reason why I should spend any time trying to guess what they might have done to the text.

Seconded. Especially when quoting really long posts. If I read a long post, I skip the responses that include the entire post in a quote.
