Just wondering....Is anyone else, besides me, going to scream and throw something across the room if that godawful "Avoid Foreclosure" advertisement doesn't stop flashing really fast and aggressively in their peripheral vision?

Of course, you may not be seeing it at this moment, but I keep trying to read people's messages, and that thing is flashing around. (Now it's some other moving advertisement, not as bad, but still annoying) I knew a woman, twenty years ago(!), who had to cover up a blinking light on her computer terminal because it triggered seizures.

I don't have that, but it does really put me on edge. I was trying to comment on someone's thread, and I just couldn't, because of that blinking.

It's a very in-your-face way of advertising. I'm not easily angered, but that kind of advertisement that calls attention to itself like that reminds me of an insolent child going, "LOOK AT ME!! ! GIMME GIMME GIMME!! ! I WANNA WANNA WANNA!! !" When I see advertisements like that, I make a point to NOT look at what they are selling, just like I don't give candy to a whiny, bad-mannered child.

I'm wondering, since a lot of non-NTs seem to be sensitive to things like this, is it a problem for a lot of you? Many of you are young enough to not remember a time before all this flashy in-you-face stuff, and so much visual clutter and movement on computer and TV screens. It didn't use to be like that, but now, it's difficult to avoid.

I know what you mean. Those ads are extremely annoying. I feel people would be more inclined to actually check out these ads if they were not being forced into a seizure.

I also do not like the ads on YouTube nowadays. The same ad that appears on the side of the window (quite largely I might add) shows up on the bottom of the videos you are watching. Trying to force my attention to these stupid ads is NOT making me want to go buy their crap.

If you join the Flickr photography website and post photos, some nice and sociable NTs are going to want to post comments under your photo to give you big, bold-colored, animated, glittery, blinking "awards" that are enough to drive you out of your mind.

I used to send Private Messages to people nicely trying to say "thanks but no thanks" ... but that tended to cause hurt feelings, disconnect, confusion, and even anger on the part of the offending NTs.

Now I often end up putting a big note right in my photo titles saying (Please No Award Group Invites). Those people who go ahead and post that garbage in my photostream after being warned get their comment deleted. Out of sight, out of mind.

Now too bad we can't delete all those unwanted blinking pop-up ads!

There are some that really make me nauseous.

When the blinkies are at the top of the page, I just scroll down as quickly as possible. If they're at the side and can't be turned off either by changing your browser settings for animations, or by holding the mouse down on the scroll bar, you can block them with your hand or a piece of paper. As a matter of principle, I will never buy anything from ad advertiser who uses that kind of attention-getter.

I grab the top bar and shift the screen over left.

I do hate those kind of ads. What's worse, if you end up on someone's teen website and they have a bunch of flashing icons on their site. I've been seeing that less now, thanks to glitter graphics, and pre-designed website stuff.

It should be possible to block just those ads with a finely-tuned enough adblocker, assuming you don't just want to block them all for some reason.

I use Chrome and Privoxy, it works just as well.

If you have firefox, then download flashblock. Bloody brilliant I havent been bothered by a single strobing ad to get me to marry an indian woman or download noisy smillies, or whatever else flashes onto the page.

Adblock also good, you can right click on images that you dont like and make them disappear....

+1 Firefox and Adblock plus. I believe Chrome and Opera also have similar features, though Chrome probably does not block ads too well since Google relies on ad revenue.

I use Opera's Block Content feature to do this. Just right-click on the page, go to Block Content, and select the offending elements, and click "Done" on top. Simple!
