Whenever I try to open a page here, the page opens up immediately, but after the page has opened up, my CPU usage shoots up to 100% and stays there for several seconds and I am unable to do anything on my computer during this period. It's been happening for about 2 weeks now, and it is absolutely driving me up the wall, as it literally takes me 20-30 seconds to open a single page!

I don't have this problem with any other website. And before this started happening, I didn't have a problem using this site.

The main culprit seems to be the animated flash adverts, where even when I put the advert on the lowest quality graphics, it does little to help. I tried blocking the adverts, which worked to some extent, but hasn't completely solved the problem either.

What are my other options?

EDIT: I just tried it on Firefox now, and it works much faster on Firefox

I ended up having to do the same thing. The advertising really does seem kind of out of proportion for a site like this but somebody said it was needed to come up with the $280 a month to pay the hosting bill.

I actually tossed IE for this very reason. The version of IE was irrelevant...I was using the beta, but a bug that they didnt seem to care about kept crashing the browser, so i went back to IE7.
For me, the problem wasn't just this site, but nearly every site I visited. Just opening IE took 10-15 seconds, something I dont wait that long for with Firefox. I also had many times when I couldn't close IE, or it would take a really long time, even longer to close than it did to open. Sometimes I ended up just killing the process because it was taking so long.
I have been using IE for , well, since it first came out. I cant recall it ever behaving like this....its almost like being on dial-up again.

Ditto. Using Firefox 3 with Adblock plus and NoScript have vastly improved browsing speeds since the horrible old days of IE6 / 7.

I did come across an advert a few weeks ago on one website, it was on a Microsoft site though and for one of their own products.

A lot of advertising nowadays is also contaminated with malware so best avoided. Even mainstream legitimate sites have unknowingly passed on malware to their users because of such adverts.

By using both AdBlock plus and NoScript it not only greatly speeds up browsing but also stops the advert based malware from running in the first place.

I only bother with NoScript when I'm booted up in Vista. With Linux, I don't have to worry about malware and I like to have most javascripts enabled. They add functionality to a lot of websites.
