I think there should be a Men's forum

I know it has been discussed. But there are distinctly male issues that men need to discuss with other men without women running into the thread posting offensive comments. Just as there are distinctly female issues that women need to discuss with other women without men running into the thread posting inappropriate comments.

I am lobbying for a men's forum. For discussion about topics specific to men (health issues, sex issues, social factors, relationships, etc.)

This is a place where men can feel safe to be themselves. without fear of being labeled misogynistic or apes or perverts or rapists or disgusting.

Because women (most) don't have penises. So in many situations our advice is irrelevant. And sometimes our advice is harmful or hurtful.

So give the guys their own forum.

I don't believe men should be in the Women's Forum at all. TG- OK, but Men- NO. Women post emotional and very personal issues there, and men have found it the place to rip any courage of coming out on WP to shreds for some, but that is enough. Besides, I have way too much fun making the men who have found their new outlet for oppression, feel as big as a cockroach. It just shouldn't be allowed. If they want to bash women, give them a more appropriate place, like a Men's Forum.

what qualifies as women bashing? what's the point of having a mens thread, if the females here make the rules and having a female moderator? I mean some women will find a lot of stuff that men will post offensive in some way.

I think the idea that the men forum was closed simply because it was debased is not quite true. People were looking for another forum and urged Alex to axe one in favour and then others commented on how it was like the adult thread. It was more the mood that they didn’t care if it would go (the people wanting another forum) rather than if it was actually useful. This when there was less restriction on content, and things didn’t get moved to the adult forum even if they were a bit risqué. There wasn’t an age restriction on the Adult forum.

I remember the actual thread. It was a very quick decision, which probably could have been thought through better but there you go.

You are going to get offensive stuff in both the men's and women's forums. Being offended is not actually against the rules. The rules are more specific than that.

Women did post in the men forum, and there was never any issue about them posting there. As I said before it is simply not viable to expect to verify a person's identity on a public forum. If that is the expectation, then there really shouldn't be a men's or women's forum because it is too misleading.

It is wrong to give the impression that either sex has a private place that they can discuss these issues by filleting particular user traits rather than a whitelist through PMs.

Just because something is posted in an appropriate forum doesn't mean what they say is justified. People get angry, but posting in the appropriate forum doesn't justify any kind of resentment. However if someone is angry, resentment is a natural result.

I don’t actually think Alex believes in affirmative action or positive discrimination over meritocracy and egalitarianism. That is not why there is a women's forum and not a men’s forum. The decision was much more to do with forum management at the time.
