Maybe its just my neurosis making me think about this, but why does WrongPlanet not have a system of archiving and locking posts that are no longer active? Usually such a system speeds up the forum.

I'd volunteer to do a little bit of this work if necessary!

It is not neurosis, more like common sense. I have already suggested this, it fell on deaf ears:

Fact of the matter WP has few other options now, besides start from scratch.

They still have posts since way back, yet it is not possible to search the forum. Plus the diseconomies by the time alex attempted retify were so great by then he was unable to implement better indexing

As far as I'm aware, there has been no use of search engines that have better indexing and are faster.

We are also tied to a hacked up phpBB 2, which happens to be one of the version with the most exploit.

Yet Alex has asked people to coff up more money for server, which isn't likely to solve the problem on its own.

Barely any of the bugs that have been reported over the time have been fixed, despite some of them taking literally five minutes to fix.

The ones that have been fixed were mainly instant failures and were likely caused by the bloating you would expect from complacency.

I tell it like it is. Don't shoot the messanger.

I actually often worry about the finances of this place.
