Even on the non peak times WP seems to be slow and full with people lately. This happening for anyone else?

Yeah. The number of people does not even seem to matter. Just the other day, I was here and there were less than 300 people online, with only 88 members logged in. I was online for almost thirty minutes before it would even let me log out...unable to read a single thread.

This has been going on for months.

I'm curious as to what exactly is the issue with this forum. I've been on much larger and busier forums and I have never seen anything like this. The issue of contributing money to the site- well, maybe, but first I want to know what's wrong and how my money would fix it. I think we got a new server a year or so ago. Archiving old threads would probably help, and I doubt that would be expensive to implement.

True non peak times the site is great, no lag at all.

I live in Australia, my evening = early morning for america, late morning for Europe, have *never* had a problem with page loading around this time.

Whereas if I'm up early at the time you made this thread, then nearly every day I get that 'we are busy come back in 2-3 mins' message. Or I'll open 10 threads in 10 tabs and come back to them in a minute once they've loaded.

It's been awful for me for the last few weeks. More often than not, I can't even read it because by the time it opens the thread I want, it takes 10+ minutes and I don't have time to just sit there and wait.

Very slow. It's reached the point where many days the amount of time it is in lag/freezing/crashed mode is greater than the amount of time it is working normally.

And as someone said, this leads to me logging off/abandoning whereas previously I would have enjoyed strolling through a lot of threads in a non-committed but open way.

It is definitely affecting my reading and posting behaviour. ie. I am much less ready to bother looking at or posting on anything which isn't my own special interests or posted on by someone whose posts I think are almost always worth looking at.

And the state of front page; no changes for months now, suggests that this problem is not about to be dealt with in the near future, if ever. It's rather disappointing.

I've contributed to the site twice. The deal was that if you donated you would get a sticker saying "WP Supporter." Well, I haven't gotten one yet, so I haven't made any further contributions.

I'd be more concerned about knowing that it was actually helpful. I'd also want to know what exactly contributions are being used to pay for.

Just expenses it seems. Not development cost, because there is no development.

The original developers of WP are no longer here. I once read a CV of one. He said, and i paraphrase "I was involved in the development of Wrong Planet but it no longer represents my design philosophy".

This doesn't surprise me.

All the people that keep WP up and running are volunteers. Time is volunteered and money for upkeep is volunteered. Are you volunteering?

If you had not noticed, Alex does not run WP as a charity. He runs it as an enterprise. It is a shame that the biggest site on the internet is ran to line someones pockets rather than the best interests of those on the spectrum.

As for you "volunteers" don't pretend you get nothing out of the position. Honestly, we are not all as naive as the few members who live their lives in the Haven.
