Advice for my AS son, re: homework

Frankly, I think you need to address the issue with his teachers.

I always had issues with homework. It was boring and (in my mind) something I shouldn't have needed to do. School is school. Home is home. If your child can learn the material in school and the homework is largely redundant, then being penalized for not doing repetitive work isn't helping him learn, it's just punishing him for not doing the excessive "busy work" the teacher assigned.

Of course, part of being self-sufficient is learning to do the "busy work" so avoidance isn't the best solution.

Subjects I had issue with in school became easier to learn when I could find a practical application for the material (i.e., math in real life). That's the best idea I can come up with.
