Are you sure that sleeping in a car will work better for you then having a roommate. There are ways that it can be done as discussed in messages above. Your a student, you will have to deal with classes and lots of other stuff. Having to make sure security wont catch you, protecting your belongings from not getting stolen, staying safe, and many other things. If might place you in a very stressful situation which wont be good for academics and all your other obligations. Good luck with everything.

That's terrible! Alex Plank said he got put on the PhD floor and they were even more sensitive to noise than he was. Maybe you can find that kind of room-mate situation. A lot of graduate student house-shares aren't very social at all, so it might be OK.

My situation was different. I was in the dorms but had to escape, so I slept in the hills above campus most nights. The next year, I camped, and saved a lot of money. I had a locker at the gym where I could leave stuff and a study carrel at the library, and only had to go 'home' to sleep. After that I was able to stay on the sleeping porch of a fraternity where my friend was a member. It turned out there were quite a few of us doing similar things.
