As my username fact that I am 24 and still working on my B.A suggests I have the same problem. When I am interested in the subject I can pay attention well. Then if the particular lecture is really boring, I can daydream about the lecture topic, like someone else was saying. If the subject is something I find really boring, I am generally screwed. I do find that chewing gum helps sometimes....or snacking....I'm not sure why. Sitting at the VERY front of the room, sometimes works too. Also ADD pills….........

I remember one class I had a really really dull teacher and it was a lot of work to pay attention even though I found the actual subject interesting. I found what worked for me was limiting my daydreaming. I'd say to myself that I had to pay attention for 10 minutes, then I could daydream freely for the next 10, and slowly worked up the amount of time I had to focus for. I guess it meant that the worst case scenario would be that I'd paid attention for half the lesson which is better than nothing.
