Have any of you asked to have an accommodation written into an IEP or 504 stating you have to be forewarned about fire drills and be allowed to leave the building prior to a drill? I did that for my son from middle school on through high school and it helped relieve a lot of anxiety for him.
Funny thing is, he still hates the sound of fire alarms but is currently enrolled in college as a Fire Science major and is thinking about becoming a sprinkler fitter or fire protection engineer at some point. He has a huge collection of fire alarms, bells and sprinklers. Go figure!

)Those fire alarms must have been very loud. Back in middle school, I covered my ears during fire drills until I got out of the building due to my hypersensitive hearing. I coped a little better with the fire alarms in high school. The fire alarms at the college I go to are more tolerable since they are not as loud and the lights flash for several seconds before the blasts start.

That's the way the fire alarms sounded at my middle school and high school (except for the alarms in the main building).
