Those fire alarms must have been very loud. Back in middle school, I covered my ears during fire drills until I got out of the building due to my hypersensitive hearing. I coped a little better with the fire alarms in high school. The fire alarms at the college I go to are more tolerable since they are not as loud and the lights flash for several seconds before the blasts start.

That's the way the fire alarms sounded at my middle school and high school (except for the alarms in the main building).
