Well, Lucas managed to get into the USC film program and was a star pupil who got snapped up straight out of school by Francis Ford Coppola (his first film THX 1138 was a remake of one of his student films), so that's problably not the best example.

You're probably better off with Spielberg, who got rejected from the big California film schools.

As for becoming a filmaker, film school is actually overrated. Hollywood is littered with failed graduates from those programs while there are plenty of respected directors out there who never went to film school.

Personally, I think it's more important to hone your craft the old fashioned way.

It's a great example. He didn't get accepted out of high school to the world's four best university's and yet he still was a success.

But who cares, my point was to concentrate on doing well in whatever college you gain access to. Sometimes the smaller, less-competitive colleges have advantages of their own, like opportunities to work with faculty members.
