I really don't see this going in the direction of "school and college life." :P

But anyway... I'm not religious because there is no objective evidence to support any of the claims various religions make. I'm atheist because I find the argument that there are no metaphysical beings to be most in line with a rational, observation-based outlook.

I think of it this way: PERSONALLY, there is absolutely nothing wrong with being religious. If that helps you, if that makes you a better person, GREAT! You're better than you were without it. However, it should not have any command in a public forum.

Muslim politics is just that.. politics of those that follow Islam.

Its not a stereotype or a racial discrimination term, its a very precise term to describe it.

Politics in the West are centered around certain leaders, political and economical. Religion plays little to no part in them. Remember the Church lost all its power during the Age of Enlightenment.

For the Muslim world however, things are very different. Their power base is split into the political leaders which are the de-facto economical leaders (sheiks, wealthy families who dominate the political arena) and the religious leaders (which range from rag-poor to the warlord-like imams).

Muslims do not have a centralized religion and thus the power of it has been split into thousands of small power bases in the hands of many different individuals that often hate the crap out of each other.

By tradition and by their social structure, the rich and powerful are accepted as the 'big bosses' because they own and run all the services and the religious leaders are accepted as equal in power to the political ones because it is usually the religious leaders that 'negotiate' the improvement of services with the political leaders.

The irony of it all is that no matter which side you look at, western or muslim, both systems worship the same god.

Money.

So.. for the West to deal politically with the Muslims is very difficult. Agreements reached with one faction are not honored by another faction even though they are both living in the same country and supposedly bound by the same laws and obligations under international treaties.

Religion in schools or no religion in schools? There many different school boards which cater to the desires of many different parents. I myself went to a Catholic grade school, but right next to us was a public school, where religion was not taught. I think that says it all.

As a Christian and a Westerner, I disagree. You imply that Muslims worship money and not Allah. I think you meant to say that monotheism is a unifying factor for Muslims and Christians. The worship of money is the worship of Mammon, the god of greed & materialism. What people profess to worship and what they actually worship can be two different things however. Many people just pay lip-service to God and use religion as a shield to hide their evil nature.

That's not what I meant. You took it a bit too literal. I said systems not individuals.

Western political system worships money. Those with money are those that have political standing and hold that standing because of the money. Hence politics in this system are fairly easy: understand the way and means the cash flows. Religion does not come into play at all here *as part of the system*.

The Muslim system has the same structure with the exception that there is a middle-man: religious leaders. Hence there are 2 power splits in their system: Political power via money and populace control via religion. Sheiks and wealthy families on one side, religious leaders and the masses that follow them on the other.

As it is a system, both of these factions are in bed with each other... the sheik/wealthy families do not want the masses to rebel and take their money and the religious leaders want money to increase their power against other religious leaders. And these religious leaders are constantly struggling with other religious leaders for a bigger piece of the pie (masses that follow them and money they get from the sheiks/wealthy families). The masses following one religious leader can only get better things than the other masses following another religious leader by supporting their own leader. In the end, from the masses up to the sheikh, the entire system worships money.

Hence why the term 'muslim politics'. Its nearly impossible for a western political system to make deals with a muslim one because the muslim one is so fractured. Why do you think the heads of state of muslim nations cant keep their own populations under control? Because they do not deal with the masses directly..instead they have to deal with thousands of little religious leader - warlords each giving a crap about international treaties and caring more about how much power/money he will get in return for obeying the sheikh.

Having no religion may solve some problems, but it won't solve all of our problems. Don't get ahead of yourself.

I`m not muslim, but I`ve actually quite liked the ones I`ve met. I also really like their insistance for a quiet room to pray. My college has a `multi-faith meditation` because of this. A quiet room with no windows, which is almost never used, and when someone is being disruptive in it you`re perfectly within your rights to ask them to leave. I`ve only had to do this twice, and both times the person got really embarassed, apologized, and left without complaint.
Prayer rooms are bloody brilliant.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster is obviously just a joke. But I have no idea what the FSM is supposed to represent. Anyone know? Whenever someone is uneasy around religion, they invoke this mythical beast. I honestly don't get it.

well, it started off when a guy sent a letter to a school board which was debating whether or not to teach evolution or creationism and he basically stated his belief in a giant monster of noodles which created the universe and how if they were going to teach christian creationism they should also teach his belief. he posted the letter on in the internet, and it took off.

anyhow pastafarians are also known for attributing the rise in global warming to the decrease in the pirate population (which is 'proven" by a purposely misleading graph) and for their belief that heaven contains beer volcanoes and stripper factories. anyhow, it's just a humorous take on religion zealotry... but it's good for a laugh IMO.

Correction. The Flying Spaghetti Monster was created as a protest against Intelligent Design.

Sadly, those who think it's a very clever protest fail to realize that Intelligent Design is not a theological theory. It can incorporate the Flying Spaghetti Monster as well as it can incorporate a Christian God as well as it can incorporate aliens as well as it can incorporate nanobots.

Anyone who actually understands the arguments of Intelligent Design (even if they don't believe them) should think that the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a rather weak argument based on ignorance.

But, I suppose we shouldn't let ignorance get in the way of bashing Christians.
