What are the courses that are most difficult to get into in your country?

In Singapore:

(10 years of school leads to an O Level cert, the lower the combined points scaled from 1 to 9, for English and 4 other subjects, the better; 12-13 years of school plus less than 20 points in O Levels will lead to an A Level cert, and the grades range from A (the highest) to U (fail).)

Medicine (Interviews, straight As for A Levels required)
Dentistry (like Medicine)
Law (14 points for O Levels, then need a high near-perfect GPA in Polytechnics; or straight As in A Levels)
Chemical Engineering (18 for O Levels, >3.88 GPA in Polytechnics; or straight As in A Levels)
Environment Engineering (15 for O Levels, >3.65 GPA in Polys; or straight As in A Levels)


In Australia:

Medicine (Interviews)
Dentistry (Interviews)
Veterinary Science (Interviews)
Law (Interviews)
Actuarial Studies (straight As I suppose)

In America, 12 years of school are required for a High School Diploma. You can get into college if your GPA is high enough, and each college or university has different standards. If you have a high enough GPA and take enough classes in science (chemistry, biology, etc.) you could go into nursing or after 16 years of school, medical school to become a doctor. To become a lawyer, almost any college degree is sufficient. You can't get into law or medical school until you've had 16 years education with a high GPA and references from faculty.

I would say that the most difficult path to take in the USA is either Astronomy, Mathematician, or Theoretical Physicist. Obviously, this can be debated.

Then why people with ordinary grades can study Mathematics and all these stuff in my hometown?

Economics on the college level are among the hardest course to do.

I dunno, econ seems relatively easy from what I've seen and heard. Chemistry and the various engineering disciplines would probably be harder. Pre-med students are usually the most stressed out, but that's just because of their unhealthy obsession with grades.

Trust me Econ is hard since micro principles is agree upon equally. It is macro principles which is heavily debated among economists with the different theories involved. Economics is not as straight forward like many people believe it is.

Depends on the school, and conceivably a bunch of other things. When I was an undergrad at UC Berkeley, engineering fields were especially difficult to get in. Biology, chemistry, astronomy and math weren't very hard to get in, but biology was really competitive once you got in, because of the pre-meds.

Macro... Well, I thought it's all about the NY=C+I+G+X-M? It's just how different economic conditions change our way of seeing the changes in national income and the ways that affect the economy as a whole... Which I am quite ok with it.

As for hard sciences... Bioengineering and biology are really hard and competitive. Sigh. And... Oh, pre-med and pre-law? Forget about them, they are just stress incubators...
