Do they have the essentials? Stove, refrigerator, microwave? (I think you bring your own mattress for a bed) not sure of the other appliances though.) A stove would be nice LOL!

Depends greatly.

When I was in university, basic furniture (bed, desk chair, bookshelves, wardrobe, etc.) were provided. Each group of twelve rooms had a common sitting area and a kitchen--but that was not consistent in every residence.

Typically, once you are accepted for a place in residence, the university will provide you with much more detail about what you need to bring, and what facilities are available to you.

It really depends on the college, but it doesn't hurt to visit the dorms yourself. I lived in the dorms before. Eww, there are only spaces to sleep and study and plug in the computer. But there are no electrical appliances in the room... You will have to share with others at common spaces, in the college dorm I lived in.

Can't you rent an apartment or stay with your parents. That's what I'm doing.

No, dorms have dining halls, so individual rooms don't have full kitchens. You will probably be allowed to bring your own mini-fridge and microwave. Also, I've never heard of a dorm requiring you to bring your own mattress--only your own linens.

There is no stove/refridgerator/microwave if you have a cafe, at least not a personal one, just a shared one in the common room

Most dorms will not have a stove or any appliances. Just a bed, dresser, and sometimes a private bathroom. My university allowed us to bring mini fridges but no microwaves. My uni did have mattresses though. We only needed the sheets.

I lasted two months in the dorms before I moved into my own apartment. I couldn't stand the noise from all the parties and college hooplah, and I hated having someone I didn't know living with me. I felt really uncomfortable going to my room, plus I missed my bunnies :D

But I guess it depends what roommates you have and who you're friends with. If I became friends with my roommate things would've have been much more tolerable, even fun. When are you moving into the dorms?

My university provided accomodation was a dorm-ish scenario, with a big courtyard of buildings, with about 8 people per apartment. I absolutely hated it. But it did have a kitchen with a stove, which seems to be the norm in the UK. Likewise, it had mattresses.

Hope that helps.

I room at a public university. My room has drawers, refrigerator, desk, microwave, closet, bed, matress, and one electronic outlet. If you move into a dorm, I highly recommend you bring an extension cord. Bring a fan if you cannot control your own room temperature.

Some residences have a basic kitchen and stove for the whole hall. I would not count on it. At my school, toasters and lamps are not allowed.
