Possible school transfer- Should I go for it?
OK so I'm somewhat fed up with the school I'm going to now ( http://www.leon.leon.k12.fl.us/ ). I haven't made any real friends and a large amount of the school's teachers are jerks and idiots, and I can agree with most other students at that.
However, I recently discovered another school in the same town ( http://www.sail.leon.k12.fl.us/ ) that looks like one I might actually be enthusiastic about. I'll be visiting tomorrow (or "shadowing", as it's called) to get a feel for the place.
While this may seem simplistic at first, I have my share of concerns:
1.The guidance counseler at the school I'm going to now rendered it practically impossible to transfer to another school by giving me a schedule from which many of the core classes at my grade level (which I was in fact eligible to take) are absent.
2. I already transferred to the school I'm going to now from a school in a different town, and don't want to deal with the hassle of a new school -again-.
3. The school I'm considering transferring to, while the teachers seem nice, the schedule is more flexible, and the classes sound interesting, has fewer clubs and, compared to my current school, programs (drama, sports, etc.) that seem somewhat lacking.
So, what do you people think I should do? Stay at my current school or transfer to another one?
That's a tough one to answer. It kind of sounds like your current school isn't responsive to the needs of the students and the teachers aren't great. If the new school has a more responsive administration and better teachers, it should be seriously considered. Have you had a chance to talk to anyone who attends that school? What do they say about the teachers and administration. Going over there and looking around and meeting them outside of class isn't the same as actually being there. They may be trying to "put on a show" so they can get additional students which in both public and private schools, translates into additional $$$.
As for the social stuff, not sure what to say there. Between grades 1-12, I went to a total of 7 schools(6 private, 1 public), and being the new kid in school was never easy for me. I always went in thinking it would be better, but it rarely was. In spite of my being unhappy in one school in particular, my parents made me stay there because I had a good math and a good english teacher. I toughed it out and academically, it was worth it.
If the teachers and academic standards are much better, and the administration is more willing to work with you, I'd think it would be worth it. I don't think you should transfer just because of social problems unless the problems are extreme, i.e. they've escalated to violence and nothing is being done to stop it.
It's a tough call. Good luck to you.

I actually shadowed the school I was going to. For those who don't know what that means (I explained it already), the administration signed me up to follow a student around during her regular school day. The student I followed seemed like a nice person, and her friends were pretty accepting of me, and several of them insisted that I transfer there.
The teachers were sincerely intelligent and cared about teaching the students more than anything else, so that worked out as well.
My parents and I are going to have a meeting with the administration in April to convince them that I'd be a good fit for their school, and I expect we'll probably be pretty successful with that.
From what I've seen, I have high expectations.
