It used to be my best subject before I gave it up in final years.

It out-scored my math SATs. I couldn't believe it. Don't be so sure you suck; sometimes you don't really know how much you know. Y'know?

I'm really quite good at it. At least, in comparison to my peers. I'm confident I'm not bad at it, but the bar isn't very high.

I did pretty good, but then, my mom was my teacher. :) It wasn't too bad to me.

Poorly. I read all the books, always read them ahead of everyone else, but could never answer all the emotional reading comprehension questions afterward. I could not write fiction.

I was generally the best at writing essays, but I needed lots of guidance and help getting started. And I had to have a topic chosen for me.

So, I failed English. Buuuut the teachers still liked me, and liked to know what books I was reading and liked my essays.

Since it was never one I could simply logic my way out of (like with many math and science classes), I haven't received better than a B in an english class since the 4th grade.

It's one of my best subjects, I'm very good at English. Well, for the most part.

So far, my teachers have concentrated on things like grammar and spelling. That's why I get such good grades, last year I still got A grades but everything was creative writing so I struggled.

I can't write fiction very well because I don't understand the emotions that the characters are supposed to show. Everyone is monotone and boring in my stories.

When I bothered to turn assignments in on time or spend some portion of the class period without my head buried in a science fiction or fantasy novel, I did quite well. Otherwise, I was a solid B+ to A-, depending on how many points were deducted for lateness.

I did great.
That, however, is relative, as we had English as a... "second" language in school. Like German. And French.
I live in the Netherlands, so my main language is Dutch.

I usually did well. Especially in creative writing although when it came to studying texts for stuff like emotions and that sort of thing I hated it. I couldn't see the point of a lot of my English classes although I still got good grades.

English has always been one of my best subjects, Regular English that is. I tried AP English and it was too much for me. AP English tends to be too hard for me but regular English tends to be too easy for me.

... What did they make you do in High School that was different from the placement test?
