I can't read! lol, it sounds funny, but that's kinda how it is; I can't read text books to attain understanding. What I usually end up doing is taking those practice quizes or homework assignments and then looking up the answer in the book (then of course committing the fact to my memory).

That said, there are a lot of pages in the book assigned to me, that I just don't read. I'm often curious about them, but when I sit myself and begin reading, I just lose track of what they're trying to say. Does anyone else do this? I feel kinda dishonest about it, as in, I feel that if anyone were to find out about this challenge I'm struggling with, they'd have me booted from the university. Does anyone else feel like this?

I'm like that too.. I read/skim over stuff then usually use the notes I take in class or memorise the parts of the textbook I need for an exam and end up doing well somehow though I've learned nothing. That's why I prefer to study by myself - I focus better, enjoy studying and find that I actually remember the material for extended periods of time.

I feel the same way about reading. I start reading a paragraph, and halfway through it turns into a mushy blur. I can make it work if I put my mind to it, but that's not easy.

Sometimes when I am tired I can't make myself read the right hand side of the text on the page. Just the left and sorta in a Nevada shape

College is a fraud.

They make you buy textbooks, you really don't need. Rare is the professor who covers everything in it during the class.

You are only tested on what was covered in class. This enables the mindless massed to have the "college experience" and graduate with acceptable to top grades.

Haha, thanks for saying that. I'll have to remember to look at things that way whenever it gets me down.

I could read just fine [though a lot of it does NOT make sense and much is so badly written it will blank out of anybody's mind.

By me the problem was always I could NOT take notes.

Trust me, it is not the same everywhere. I learned that the hard way. I thought I could show up to class and just study what the professor gave out for lecture notes and be fine with it. One big LOL later and I've failed all my classes for the semester because they kept popping up with things I had never seen. I discovered that my books are indeed indispensable for some classes and that they must be read.

However, this does not mean that you need to read every page. Often a class will cover only certain topics. And if you have a good book then you will have lots of examples to do at the end to practice with. And if you are really lucky, they will give you the answers so that you can know if you are doing it correct.

As long as you're passing your classes and not cheating, they can't kick you out. I pretty much never read the books for classes. Most of them are confusingly written. Thankfully after a few years at college, I've learned to take decent notes (definitely took time though). If I need to, I'll just briefly skim through those before a test. I don't think I've ever actually studied more than a few hours for a test...

I also agree with zer0netgain that college is a fraud.

In my case, yes.

I took a couple of pointless art majors and courses to match. Most of the stuff I've learned is stuff I'm not interested in learning.

The stuff I did want to learn the teachers did a horrid job of teaching. I was real psyched about the script writing class but we spent so much time reading through movie scripts and then they tell us to write a scrip at home without telling us how to effing do this. The class was really meant to write scripts for another video production class to turn into movies. It was kinda ridiculous.

I graduated with a English major but I passed my English classes with most of my grades in the B through C range.

And of course, it's Creative Writing so it's like dont expect any companies to come rushing to your door. Heh
