My plan of attack this Fall is to focus on College. I asked my friend about her schedule (for the summer) and it's class Mon-Thurs. work fri/Sat. I couldn't DO IT! I NEED to focus 100% on college work or IMO the work would suffer plus I'm "in my element" with the papers/school work and would find a job a chore! Does anyone else feel this way and are you 100% college focused (as in no job just school?)

I started college last fall, and i had classes monday thru friday and work on saturdays. I found this made things a little more overwhelming, but i still did fine that semester.

This spring i took 18 credits and didn't work compaired to 12 credits in the fall, and for some reason it was even easier than the fall. I don't know if its because i was just starting in the fall, or because i didn't work.

I would suggest only working 1 day or avoiding work during school if you can. Doing your best at college will get you better jobs in the long run.

I don't plan to have a job, but maybe a work-study job. I don't want to get a work study job right away though. My main focus will be college. This year I went to junior college and commuted from home and even though I didn't work it was really easy to get distracted by every little thing. This fall I'll go to a 4 year college and live on campus, I think it will be easier to focus on school then.

Wait till you get to college before coming to conclusions like this. Chances are, you'll need a couple of days break to recupricate.

My course is 9-5 (or sometimes earlier or later) 5 days a week (and occasionally weekends), and it gets worse each year. I would love a couple of days off a week! :(

Im mostly focused on college, I've been a full time student this whole time and I study a lot. I dont have a job but I do some research on the side which to me is kinda like a job. Its only for 3-5 hours a week. I dont intend to get a job till after I grauduate which hopefully i'll be able to get one.

STORY OF MY LIFE!! !! College and school work is my element, especially my anatomy, biology, and math. I even loved oral communication because I could talk about my Asperger's and anything. I love school. The only reason I do not do it in the summer is so that I could reread my anatomy book and get rest due to health problems. But when school is in session, school is my life. Study study study. i have no time, or care about jobs, social, or anything else in life. Plus, I am not getting a job until I graduate. Getting a job and going to school is very difficult, stressful, and disabling. Also, you will do a lot better in school if you did not work at all because jobs can take out of your study time and you will too tired to work or study if you had one. Education is way more important. I also get disability, so financial AID pays for my schooling. I could not even work in the summer, since during the school year my energy is spent.

Amen to that!! !! ! I'm also supposedly getting Aid YA! I tried a summer course last time (English 1) and it was AWFUL! The teacher made us USE books NO WEBSITES! So example that Autism article from CNN on some research NOT VALID!! !! Although lets say it gave data and a professional name! (It's not like I was using Wikipedia or Wrongplanet!!) (No offense but this site would be strictly opinion although as I've read some of you have linked to studies so get info. that way) SO I did a paper on Atkins BORING AND DULL AND STUPID OMG I HATED IT! Plus 5 weeks to do a course NEVER AGAIN OMG I had never written a College Paper (only minor book reports for mom during home school) SO I was COMPLETELY oblivious to how one was written!! !! IMO 5 weeks isn't enough to do a course. I'm so psyched about returning to College!! !!

Zelda,
That sucks that you had to use books. With my English it was the opposite. We had to use the internet and it was cool. We were in a computerized English room and we got to print our articles for our papers there. We even got to write our final research papers there and the teacher even helped us. She was awesome. she had us write papers on cool things, like we had to do a movie review for the movie Religulous which we saw in class. it was so cool.

That's what I do. I don't have a job during the school year (I do work during the summer). I have just enough energy and executive function to manage all the work for 4 classes (a full course load at my school) while eating, sleeping, doing online stuff like this sometimes, and seeing friends occasionally. If I tried to do anything else, be it a 5th class, a club, or a job, I wouldn't be able to manage. Honestly, I'm kind of jealous of my friends who are in several clubs while taking demanding classes. They're having all sorts of fun and enriching experiences, while still getting something out of their classes, so they'll truthfully be able to look back at college and say, "this was the best time of my life." I'm missing out on most of the fun parts of college, so the "best time of my life" will probably end up being something else.

At my school, students put on a lot of concerts and plays, volunteer at all sorts of interesting places, and take part in a lot of activities. If it's possible for you to try some of these things while still focusing on your schoolwork, it might be worthwhile. These sorts of things, NOT drinking and partying, are the real "college life," IMO.

I'm in grad school and I have a 20 hour/week assistantship that pays for my school, if I can handle that in addition to a full load of classes and still drink and party on weekends and still get close to straight A's, then I see no reason why I shouldn't be self indulgent and have fun while I'm here.

So far so good.

I could never hold a job, do clubs and/or do much when I am in school. Physically and mentally it would be too much. That was the mistake I made 12 years ago. Now, I am glad I am on disability during school because I could never function, do school, or work, never mind clubs without some physical breakdown. I have enough trouble with having physical energy just to do after school chores. Plus, school to me is more important than anything else. It is the schooling that would get me my dream job, good life, and money. Even though clubs can look good, but good grades are more important than popularity.

Well what you need to is if you can put time into school and activities, just make sure you organize your time wisely. Also you do not need to attend club meetings every single week. I joined 2 clubs in school and I didn't necessarily go to them every single week. Just go to your club meetings like once or twice or three times a month. You don't have to go to every single meeting, it is okay, it's not the end of the world.

Yeah, I'd like to focus on school 100% but I have to support my habits... eating and sleeping indoors.
