Writing a statement of purpose

I plan to pursue graduate studies in a few years, and need to know how to write a statement of purpose. What exactly is it, and what things do I write about?

Haven't a clue, but google 'statement of purpose templates' and you'll probably find an example. You may need to tweak a few things to personalise it.
