I am taking an accounting class, not because I want to but because I have to for my IT degree. Because as we all know, administering a network of Unix servers and CISCO routers requires regular use of balance sheets and income statements. I can not think of a less interesting subject. Every time I pick up my accounting textbook and start to read it, I can't comprehend it because my brain just switches off, because nothing is meant to be this fu¢king bland. I keep thinking "How the hell is this relevant? This insipid drivel, this vapid, meaningless nonsense." I would rather get @$$-raped by Mike Tyson while sitting naked in a bucket of broken glass in the middle of Antarctica than have to deal with this $hit.

I'm not asking for advice here, mostly just venting. Still, your thoughts or similar experiences would be welcomed.

I HATE Accounting....with a burning passion.... I feel like I'm going to the DENTIST every time I walk in one of my Accounting classes.

And yes, *lucky* for me (please note, I'm DRIPPING with sarcasm), it's my major! (A stupidly and hastily chosen one, all because I was trying to be "practical".)

Just be glad you didn't make the hasty stupid choice I did...and count down your Accounting semester by the week. (I.e., if your semester lasts 18 weeks and you have class twice a week, the numbers go down quickly.... )

Good luck, and just think, it's supposed to help your IT career. But in any case, I certainly feel your pain. :-S

Well, this is the opinion of someone who is majoring in Accounting (and actually enjoying it), but seeing as you'll most likely be working for a variety of different businesses who all function on an Accounting system, it's good to have a general idea of how it works. Accounting pops up everywhere in everything. I've worked a number of different temp jobs and I know this for a fact. When there are projects involved, the database and timesheet applicaitons will often be directly linked to the accounting system for billing purposes.

In most colleges and universities, an IT degree is almost always offered as an business degree. Personally, I thought basic accounting wasn't hard - I did OK in it. However, I got to take friggin' accounting next semester...

It's relevant because it'll get you a degree. The usefulness is in that, rather than in the practical application of the knowledge at a later date.

Do the things you have to do to get the things you want to get. It doesn't have to make any more sense than that.
