To make a long story short...

1- Graduated from an American High School in South America in 1997... The HS diploma is the same exact one as that awarded to a US student.

2- @19 became US resident and entered the local college. They accepted my HS diploma without trouble. Took all but 2 semesters worth of college classes for my AA degree.

3- 10 years later I finally find a major im interested in..and its offered at a local university. To enter it I need to finish my AA degree. No problem... right?

4- College tells me that since the records are old they've archived them so I wont be able to register for class unless their computer system shows my HS transcript. It was the middle of Spring 2010 semester so I told them fine, pull it from your archives and I will register for Summer classes.

5- 2 months go by and they dont find the transcripts in their archives. Since it was deadline time to register for summer classes I talk to the director of their records and admissions and they 'trick' their computer systems into allowing me to register... by switching me from high school graduate to 'home schooled' . They would keep searching the archives for my transcript in the meantime.

6- 2 semesters go by (this is now Fall 2010) and they STILL dont find my HS transcript. The system will not allow me to graduate unless it is there. I tell them WTH its your fukup you need to fix it and I need that AA to enter university on spring semester.

7- College refuses to issue AA.. NOW they say I can just have my HS re-send the transcripts... so FINE. I do that. Costs me 150 bucks to have them send it. College refuses to reimburse me for that expense.

8- It is now mid-spring semester.. I could not enter University ....college STILL cannot find my HS transcript in their records and while they have received my new HS transcripts, the college states they have to 'research' the accreditation of my HS because its out of the country. That will take time.

So.. they lose my HS transcripts, force me to lose 2 semesters worth of time waiting for their asses to find it (and dont), force me to end up paying 150 bucks to re-send the HS transcripts and when they receive them they stall me another semester or two ... because they want to verify if an AMERICAN HS diploma is valid.

What a clusterfuk >< . Im seriously thinking of contacting an attorney.. this is ridiculous.

I've been through a similar situation, but it was with different high schools.

If they can't "find" your HS transcript, can you take a GED test instead? And contacting an attorney might not be a bad idea.

Your case is extreme, but not unfamiliar.

Way back in my student days a friend of mine had a problem with his registration. I went with him to the admin building, he stated his problem.

Clerk goes away, comes back [this is before PCs and workstations, he had to walk] and tells mt friend - this is an exact quote, I can see and hear it like yesterday]: "I'm sorry, you don't exist."

The universities totally buu into the "never explain, never apologize" philosophy. However, if it looks as if you will sue them and get it in the papers - especially if you are African-American or part of another protected category [I know, it is no actual protection, but the U does not want to LOOK racist].

Being Aspie COULD help - I know a case where a student in Law School - with a lawyer father - filed a suit mentioning his learning disability. The administration caved.

College doesn't take responsibility for anything. They have so much political/social/economic clout, that they really don't feel a need to. Try asking for a refund, because you didn't find the education to be adequate. They'll probably tell you to get out before they call security...
There's no harm in having a consultation with a lawyer, though. If there actually *is* a case to be made, you can have your lawyer write a threatening letter to the college. They'll know you're serious, and cave in.

Oh if only life could be this sweet every day...

My high school sent me the tracking number via DHL and it shows the college received it on Jan 27 and the person who signed for it. They also sent me an unofficial copy of them via email (scanned) due to the urgency of the issue..they dont do this normally.

The person who is now the dean of my high school turns out to be my old physics teacher... and he remembers me due to my epic leaps in logic which somehow got the answer via weird math .. and he is going to be calling the dean of the college to see why they are suddenly having issues with an american diploma issued by an accredited US high school that operates overseas.

... annnd in a couple hours I'll be in the director of admission's face with the DHL receipt, my printed transcripts.... its SO going to get rubbed in her nose :D

I wouldn't recommend that. The admissions office staff at UCF was very petty when I was a student there.

This one bounced up and down their staff food chain. My ol' physics teacher hasn't lost his talent for being a hardass.

It... is... FIXED. :D

Now i can finally register for my CLEPT and math CLAST and get the flippin' degree so I can move on.

Glad it worked out for you, but I was going to note that, as a rule, colleges are disinclined to take responsibility for anything.
