So I've only been on one date in my life.
I'm 18, yup, and the only date I went to was a dance that I asked a guy to (and he said yes because nobody had asked him already and he is just a nice guy).
Anyways, I've made my peace with that.
What is coming up soon though, I don't know what to do.
Prom.
Bleh.
The joy of some, and the dread of others.
Guess what category I fall into?
So I know I won't be asked by anyone because i have no semblance of a social life.
But it still really sucks.
What is even worse is that I live in a neighborhood with a lot of kids my age almost right next to the school.
I have a run of somewhere around 18-20 miles planned that day.
But I don't want to see anyone when I am running.
That is going to be hard.
What should i do?
Wear sunglasses, a hat, and keep my head down low?
They know it is me, I'm the only one who likes running.
Up until now I have been able to hide the fact that I have no life, and pretend that I am this happy normal person who has a social life.
I don't think I will even want to go to school that monday, or church that sunday because I DON'T want to see those people and hear them talk about how amazing their life is.
Depressing, I know.
What should I do?
Anybody have ANY ideas???????! !! !!
I can't be the ONLY one who has gone through this.
Thanks to anyone who answers.

I was in your exact situation in high school. If someone asked me if I was going to the prom, I would just say that I didn't want to go, which was the truth. From the perspective I have now, the whole thing seems really irrelevant anyway. I have no regrets about not going to the prom, so worrying about it when I was your age wasn't even worth the mental effort. If I were you, I would just persevere for now. Soon you'll realize the same thing I did, even though you may be stressed out about it now. It will all pass.

What did you say why you didn't want to go? (because I was a junior last year, and they bugged me about it, now that I am a senior they are going to say last chance and use that argument)

I talk to myself when I am running, and I don't what the entire school to know that, I am embarrassed when one person sees me doing that, what should I do, I don't want to be bored the entire time?

Oh, and thanks for the reply. :)

I never went to prom, and I certainly was never asked.

As for running, doesn't your school have a track team? I don't see the problem with it...

You are a boy, I feel little sympathy, Prom is a boy-ask-girl dance. There was a girl-ask-guy dance this year, and though I was nervous as heck, I asked someone.

I CAN'T ask anyone to prom because the social stipulations are too much. the few that I know of:
anyways:
*They might think I am in love with whoever I ask
*The person will most likely have a girlfriend
*This is a boy-ask-girl dance
*A lot of girls have been planning this day out since they entered high school and if I were to steal the person they wanted....it would be heck
*I don't know anyone enough to go for the last dance of the last year of high school)

As for track, I was on cross-country from 9th grade to 12th, and I was on track from 9th through 11th, but this year I am training for a marathon instead of doing track.......and all my training is running around my neighborhood.

1: Seriously?
2: Then find someone else.
3: Is that a rule? Will you be suspended or locked in a closet or burned at the stake if you ask a boy?
4: Life is what happens when you make plans. It's nearly impossible for ever girl to go with her "ideal" choice. Prom is a comedy of errors that way.
5: Go stag? Hire someone? Get to know someone?

From what I heard about my proms, most people went in groups, and everyone had a good time regardless. It wasn't the dramatized thing you see on TV. I suppose it lead me to believe that all this angst was gone in a modern prom.

There's no trick to having fun. I didn't go to prom because I knew I would hate being there much more than not being there. The choice you have is whether you want to have fun or not. Pick one ,and make it happen.

I still don't see the big deal with running. Almost everyone is capable of it, and most people run at least once in their lives. Why is it so shocking that some people run more that others? Do the people in your neighborhood not understand what a marathon is? Or is the problem that you want to hide? It can't be impossible to drive somewhere and then run, if you feel it is warranted. You could also try running wearing this.

When I was in HS, I had clases with at least 2 girls on the track team. I saw them running through the halls after school with the rest of the team sometimes. Was I expected to laugh at them?

I never actually gave an explanation. If they're not your close friends, you don't owe them an explanation. If you're compelled, just tell the truth and say you don't like large parties.

Don't worry about talking to yourself while running. You strike me as overly self conscious. I would fix that if I were you. That will stress you out even more when you get to college. It's better to laugh about your quirks than to stress out over them. Sooner or later you'll meet someone that will tease you about it, and you'll be able to tease them about their quirks. It's rare that you find someone like that, but they will appear in the most unlikely places. Just wait it out for now and do what you love, not what anyone else wants you to do. There was a time when I was just as self-conscious as you, but I learned it was all a waste of mental energy. Here's a big secret, people will find you admirable if you do what you love, and you're good at it. You'll get respect for that.

1.Maybe, Idk about people, I feel weird on dates already, the fact that I might have chose someone for a big event might signify that they have a big importance in my life
2. Ok, but I still IDK who
3. No, it isn't a rule, but as I said, it is probably a social rule
4. Yea, I just don't want to cause any unnecessary drama
5. Go stag? With who, all of my friends will probably be asked and I don't want to be the odd one out
Hire someone? That would just seem deperate
Get to know someone? That's the thing, it is too late, I am in the last semester of senior year, there is not enough time to get to know them that quickly

They do go in groups, but you have to make plans WAY ahead and you have to pick someone who would fit in with the group good (and you won't feel awkward) and then you have to get into a group.

There has to be some trick to having fun. My thing is getting into the fun. Now that I know I would probably have fun if I went, I want to go, but there is no way for me to go.

The running thing:
They understand that I am running a marathon.
My problem is that they might see me running during the time everyone is out about for prom (either day activities or something).
Then they will know that I talk to myself (when I run) and that I am not going to prom (which is committing social suicide, because if I don't have a date for prom, it means that nobody likes me).

No, haha, you weren't supposed to laugh at them (especially for track, it is more popular than cross-country) but that is in a team sport. I am training for a marathon, by myself. So when they run, they talk to each other, when I run, I talk to myself. See where people might discover the madness (not really though, it is just a way to stay entertained for a few miles).

You're so worried about what other people think. After HS you probably won't see many of them again. Like you said, you don't know them, so it's not like you'll keep in touch, right? As long as you believe your life depends on the beliefs of others, it does.

Well what do you do if they are kinda your close friends, but kinda not.
And I do like parties, sometimes,I do want to go, it's the details that bug me.

Yea, hahah I am the over-thinker to the max.
I know, I don't have a problem with people teasing me about it, what bothers me is when people might make judgments in their mind and treat me differently from that (because people have suddenly started acting weirdly towards me, randomly, without there being a reason that I knew of). But what if I am not good enough. I am only good at drawing but I haven't really had any opportunity for competition there. And the running, I didn't make varsity(the measure of greatness) because we had 100 people (40 girl/60 guys) on our cross-country team and I don't have fast-twitch muscles.

I may or may not. Because I am Mormon, so we have a culture in Utah, Arizona, and Idaho.
I didn't get into regular BYU, but BYU-I.
If I stay in AZ, I might see them again (which I really, really don't want to but if I don't convince my parents, I might have to).
If I go to Idaho, I might have to also (because a lot of them have indicated that they are going to BYU-I).

Oh, and I am friends with a lot of them on fb, so I probably will keep in touch there.

I don't think it depends on the beliefs of others, but I don't want other people to believe bad things.
Just like I don't care if people think I am weird, but I want them to think I have friends.
I don't mind there being unique things about me, but I don't want to be thought of as SO weird that they don't want to talk to me.
