I guess the subject line says it all!! !! :cat:

I did a sociology class online this summer, but really it was just kind of boring. I liked the reading and the topics, and the fact that all of the students got to talk on a discussion board instead of face to face....but it was just kind of missing something. I'm pleased to say that I did get an A+ in the class though!! !! !

As much as I don't like spending my days in fluorescent bright classrooms listening to boring lectures, I miss it. And that probably sounds a little crazy, but it's true. I miss the few friends I have, the one lecture out of 5 that doesn't suck, and being able to do my exams inside a classroom. I honestly thought it would be easier to do my exams online, but I'm actually far more distracted by doing them in my own bedroom. It's like being in the classroom puts the purpose in front of me and being in my room makes it too easy for me to get up and go do something else.

I recently started getting stuff in the mail about getting ready for the fall semester, and I'm honestly more excited about this year than I was about my first year!! !! :bom:

There is only one thing that is really worrying me right now: in a moment of stupidity, my advisor convinced me to register for speech communications for this semester, and I actually agreed to it. :pale: And I really really dislike the idea of having to give a bunch of speeches in a lecture room with 50ish people in it all watching me. The only good news is that one of my few really good friends is in the same class as me and I've heard that the professor we got is a really good one.

I have to have the speech class to earn a degree (so either this year or next year), but I really don't want to do it....So now I don't know what to do. I am an excellent writer. I am a horribly bad speaker...and not just a bad speaker, but like a really really incredibly horribly nervously bad speaker. So, the question is: humiliation now....or later?

I'm ready to get back to college as well. I have absolutely nothing to do. I miss seeing my friends every week. And I'm getting tired of having to cook all 3 meals a day for myself. That stinks about the speech class. I would say since you have to take it and you're already registered, I'd go ahead and take it now.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll just do it and get it over with. Who knows, maybe I won't embarass myself too much....well, I hope. :duh:

Me too! I didn't even consider that part. Since everything I cook is usually not completely done or burned :eew: , it will be a really good thing to go back to eating in the dining hall. At least the food there is recognizable.

I'm counting days over here! Still got almost 5 weeks though...

I cook for myself and my boyfriend. The meals at the uni cafe are not cheap at all, like $8.50 for a pie and a little salad or $6.50 for a small tub of gourmet pasta! He goes to work and they charge similar prices. My uni day is long and tiring but food gets me through :)

Are you going to a university? I'm currently attending a community college, so the classes are a lot smaller (which was why my speech class wasn't as difficult as it would be in a university).

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this fall semester as well. This summer is turning out to be a drag.

Wow, that's a rip-off. I bought a bunch of meals to put on my card at the beginning of last year, and it works out to less that $5 per meal for all you can eat at any of 5 cafeterias. And I still have enough meals left for at least this fall semester and maybe the beginning of spring 2012 semester.

Haha you can see why I cook my own meals. $5 isn't too bad for the price of a meal and it sounds like you have some variety too! Yeah, I go to an art school so naturally everything is expensive :(

I took on a job as tutor and instructor for the new kids starting next semester (i'm studying computer science) I always wanted to try my hand at teaching, plus it pays well too.

in any case, you may come to liking speech communications, it could teach you some ways to push your limits. My advice would be to listen closely :)

Yep, a university. The lectures usually have anywhere from 50 to 90 students in them and labs usually have about 20. :?

Whoa!! !! That is a rip off!! !

Where I go, it's $6.50 for lunch in the dining hall (the place is huge and you can get as much of whatever you want) and then they have another place, like a smaller cafeteria, where you can get just get like a salad or pizza or something.

To be honest though, lunch for me is usually a sandwich out of a vending machine. :eew: My class schedule usually doesn't allow for time to make it to the dining hall and back during the day, so the meal plan thing is usually wasted on me. :?

Everytime I tell people about the prices at my uni cafe they can't believe how expensive it is! The coffee is a good price at $2.50 for a small cappuccino :) My uni day starts at 6.30am to get there at 9.30am for class. This finishes at usually 4.30pm and I get home at 6 - 6.30pm depending on how slow the train is. I end up tired as due to being surrounded by people all day (I'm an introvert) and it depends on what subject I had that day. By the time the term finishes I just don't want to cook at all. This is when I don't have much time or energy to cook. I found this website useful when I run out of things to eat: http://www.taste.com.au/

Wow you have a long day! 8O And I thought mine was bad: wake up at 7am to study/get ready for class, then classes from 9am to almost 4pm, and then finally get home about 5:15pm or so. Your day is longer.

And that website you linked to is cool. I couldn't stop myself from looking at the deserts!! !!

Yeah cool website. Last semester I had to get up at 8am and I would get back to my apartment around 8 or 9pm. Next semester it'll be 8am to 2pm with an hour lunch break. I love college! It's just so much fun when I'm not freaking out over some assignment or test. If I didn't have to keep paying for it I'd want to stay in college forever.

Its great news you did great on that class and are getting hyped :)

My advice: Get that speech class out of the way asap.

Research the prof's that teach that class. Ask them for a copy of their syllabus from the previous semester so you can get an idea of the workload involved and what is expected.

Rule of thumb... choose the prof. that assigns the least number of speeches :P .

...and remember: Visual aids consume speech time... so use lots of them ;)

I didn't think of any of that! Those are really good ideas! :D Thanks!
