I day dream a lot, and even when I try to focus, I still don't process it, and I miss things most people don't. It sucks. I've been this way since second grade. I'm just not an auditory learner.

Well, i can not really focus on obsolete classes and topics outside of my interest zone, i think aspies tend to be indifferent to topics outside their interests.

I doodled and played games like solitaire. Some professors hated it, but others told us up front that if we needed to fidget in order to pay attention that it was fine with them. And wouldn't you know, I was able to pay more attention and got better grades with the latter group.

Do you have a laptop, and is there a course website with powerpoint slides of class notes? I used to spend a good chunk of class typing up notes from those slides into a OneNote document on my computer, and that helped me retain more information.

The only classes that I never or rarely daydreamed in is math class. For some reason in university it got narrowed down to calculus class.

Can you record lectures on an audio recording device?

I can relate. It's not unusual at all for me to a) daydream without even realising I'm doing it or b) do something very distracting during classes. I wish I had advice but anything I said would probably be pretty hypocritical! One thing I have done is to ask a friend to nudge me if I go off on a daydream/ get distracted!
