Does anybody else dread these?

I actually like exercise. But when I exercise, I have to do it privately which doesn't leave me with a lot of options.

I can't stand PE lessons because of the fact that it's always concentrated on group work and that it's always so competitive. I'm not naturally particularly sporty and I always feel like people are criticising me. I always feel like I'm going to do something wrong to the point that I panic so much that I do everything to avoid participating.

What are your views on PE?

Throughout the years, I have a had a lot of bad experiences in PE. In elementary school, I would really anxious during PE, so in middle school, I often wouldn't participate because of my experiences in elementary school. Drills have always been fine, but I don't like the competitive games very much at all. In my grade 6 class, I was the only one who didn't really like PE. Everyone else liked it. I usually got a C+ in PE. I wanted to take it this year, (this was the last year that I had to take it) but my case manager insisted that I put it off.

Since I'm home schooled, I've never had to do PE or Gym. Instead, I have to do a lot of military oriented PT (Physical Training) sessions as a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol. PE/Gym looks so easy compered to PT.

I dreaded gym. It always was so loud that, as I understand now, I was close to a meltdown by just being present in the place with the class. And then they expected me to do something in the room, something else than holding my ears and rocking, that is... but of course, I was unDXed so I had no other choice than to bear it. To make things worse: I am visually impaired and thus sucked royally at everything which has to do with using a ball. In my lat PE classes I was adamant that I would not participlate in things which require 3d perception as major part. My PE teacher however was a ditz or dumb on purpose and always forgot or 'forgot' that we had an agreement that I would not participate in it. When it came to rating the teacher at the end of the year, I did not rate her with a 6 (the worst possible mark) in the various categories in the questionaire, I drew additional checkboxes and gave her marks between 8 and 10. She was a bad PE teacher, but then, most PE teachers are bad ones. At least I have yet to find a good one.

I always hated gym class, particularly once I got into junior high and high school because I hate team sports, and I always dreaded the picking of the teams (since I was always last). Also, I hated changing in the change rooms there as well.

In elementary school, it was SO bad, although I still tried to get out of it sometimes depending on the activity. Gym class was one place where I preferred less structure and we could kind of do our own thing. I used to love skipping and hula hoops. We also had ropes in our gym which I never climbed up, but used for swinging. I also liked the parachute games, and I loved hide and seek (the gym teacher would set up all the equipement and drap the mats over and under them for dozens and dozens of different hiding spots. He would then turn out the lights, and we got to spend the class playing hide and go seek tag. That was fun!) Junior high and high school gym was just plain boring. Luckily for high school though, I only had to take one half semester of "physically active lifestyles". Some of that was in the class, and the rest was in the gym. Usually, though, we were able to choose a walk outside instead of staying in and playing sports, so that wasn't toooo bad. I just signed out, went for a walk around the neighbourhood, then signed back in an hour later.

Do NOT remind me.

Worst aspects - socialization, showers, pushups, rope climbing, incredibly dull instructors

Best aspect - finally being done with it.

I never had a really good experience in gym class. Gym class for me was always too competitive especially since I have always had and continue to have gross motor and fine motor skill issues. Also changing for me was a problem in middle and high school.
