I am considering an online College degree program for my son.

There are more than few these days, I see Drexel University has a program. At least I recognize the name!

Has anyone finished their degree online? Or are in the middle of getting a degree?

How do you like it? Is it working for you? Did you finish your degree and were you able to get a job in your area of study?

No lectures on how terrible the economy is, I know that already. Joking a little.

Thanks!

I've taken online classes and they just don't work for me.

Despite all my misanthropy and social impediments, I enjoy going to classes. I need the motivation of facing my professor to help me get things done, and I learn so much better taking notes and listening to lectures.

If your son has lots of self discipline and focus, he'll do great online.

If he's like me, highly focused on special interests but indifferent to other subjects, he might have troubles.

Thanks for your input and he sounds more like you than not. Works hard on the subjects that interest him and the others, not so much

Here is a link to a list of online colleges:

I was not able to vet this website very well, not much information about who created this website, so let the reader beware, but it looks like a pretty comprehensive list.

Please be sure that the college is recognized by the major college associations otherwise all the time and effort he put into that degree will be lost: the degree is likely to not be recognized when going for higher education or skill-specific employment.

You can talk to your local state university/community college and see if they offer online degrees. Many of them do.

I've gotten my Bachelor's Degree in Game and Simulation programming last year from DeVry and it was the right choice for me. I hate driving and the closest college was almost an hour drive away and I have a hard time taking care of myself so living in a dorm was out. Also, I spend 3 of my four years of high school on independent study and graduated at 17 with high honors. However, I have not been able to find a job because of the long commute and I have to move and live on my own, which I'm not ready for. I'm not that great at cooking so I can only last a few days on my own. Then again, I have no job experience but a decent resume.

If you son can handle studying and learning on his own most of the time, I recommend it, especially if you have the same issue I have. However, he may have trouble looking for a job if he has to commute a long way and is not good at driving.
