I just come to school and leave because nothing really interests me. I've been thinking of making up a club though...

In my high school, school spirit was something only jocks, cheerleaders, and their friends were supposed to do. If anyone other than these people did it, they were looked down upon as dorky. There were many strict and unreasonable rules, and everybody hated the school as a result. I did too, and couldn't possibly care less about showing school spirit, although I was still considered a dork for other reasons.

I'm glad I live in Sweden. We don't do that kind of s**t here.

I like school-sponsored activities that interest me, like my school's Drama club (which I'm in), the writer's club, the anime club, etc.
I'm personally glad that schools have organizations that allow students to make friends and meet people with similar interests (not to mention that school clubs keep kids out of gangs and away from street violence, which is also a good thing.)
But as for the whole "school pride" thing, however, I think it's superficial bull that's basically training young people to become Nazis.

We have no writer's club at our school :( hmm....idea.... We do have a drama club where i've volunteered to do behind the scenes work. :) I can't project my voice to save my life so maybe i'll audition for the next play.
I just hate the thought of having to follow a new schedule. I have little or no school spirit though...i'll leave that to the jocks and cheerleaders whom come to me for help in subjects.

At my high school, it was definitely led by the people you mention. But at my hs, the school spirit was phenomenal, out of this world, like out of some teen flick. But if you weren't one of those folks and you didn't participate in school spirit, which at my hs was phenomenal, out of this world, you basically got your a** kicked and you were looked down upon by the faculty and everyone else. concerned about scholarship references and such, i most certainly raised my fist at the weekly pep rallies and volunteered for fund raising projects where possible.

my college is relatively weak on school spirit so i feel like i'm coming down from a high. it's almost depressing. there's a student events program, which i know the people running it think is doing pretty well, but having been to a couple of the other colleges in the state (visiting relatives or going to sporting events)...heh...not even a comparison.

I've never had "School Spirit". I just went to High School, attended my classes, went home and did my Homework. I didn't like school and I didn't care for most of the students whom I went to school with.

me, i gave up doing that when i entered 11th grade ebucase most of the events were in afternoon so i coudlnt attend even if i wanted to because i had technical school. the first 2 years of high school, id attend these events and it was just sports related stuff like the powder puff or pep rally that is all sports stuff and i had no care about school sports. when i look at a school, its academics and the people there not how well the sports teams do.

all other events such as pajama day or wear your school colors day or hat day i never gave much of a care to either. that school gave me bull about odors that a human cannot possibly emit. i didnt want to give them the impression that i forgive them for their accusations of the oil smell in halls.

them things were soo boring at times it made fixing a door in the technical school sound interesting! (and was) that technical school was the perfect aspie place, no sports events, no clubs (accept 4 depending on what kind of course you are in)

i know, i graduated back in 2002 but just wanted to say my point of veiw on the "spirit week"

Same for me, except for the homework...

I was involved with a couple of school activities outside of classes, but didn't show much (if any) school spirit. My life at school consisted of having a couple of friends and doing the same kinds of things each day, so nothing really all that exciting...

I never quite understood the concept of "School Spirit." I basically went to school and went home, especially since noen of the schools had any activities I was interested in. My sister a few times did criticize me for having no school spirit, but I never quite understood what it meant.

Some schools I went to had that kind of stuff, some did not but in the ones that did, those who didn't have "school spirit" were often mistreated. I wish I could have gone to a school that stuck to 3 R's and not messed with all this other crap.

I go to a school that I feel I *can* and *should* be proud of.
My school is what livejournal would be like if it existed in the real world.

There's nothing wrong with "School Spirit" when it's positive and reasonable.

It's scary when it becomes compulsory, rabid competitiveness, though.

This sums it up for me also even through college. In high school they had pep rallies at the end of the day instead of class I just left early

I don't go to any of the club things because they're all several hours after school ends, and I live over an hour away so it isn't worth it.
Then there's the Student Center which is kind of like a student government but independent from the authorities. That has a lot of activities: cultural, historical (remembering all the students murdered by the government 30 years ago), political (both trying to convince the principal to change stuff and organizing protests against the current education laws)... I don't participate in any of them. I'm proud of my school, but have zero school spirit.

I guess I lucked out in this case. Like I said earlier, at my high school, for anyone who'd not a jock or a cheerleader, it was actually cool not to have school spirit. That's pretty much the only way I could fit in.
