Here is my advice for commuters. Stay on campus for longer hours.

There are many commuters who simply go to campus mostly to attend the classes and then go home. If they have one class in the morning and one later on, they may even come home and back. If you take 14 credits, for example, make sure you are on campus no less than 28 hours per week, or even better stay on campus for 35.

But I say you should stay on campus at least double the contact hours (amount of credits you are taking) per week, unless you have a child, demanding job, or other big commitments.

There are MANY benefits.

1) It may be easier for you to live your life in time blocks rather than having a scattered schedule. Doing all of your academic related work in school in those extra hours can give you peace of mind at home.

2) Or just getting it done period helps. The campus is more conducive to learning with a library of many tools you can use. Generally, on campus there isn't the TV and video games to distract you.

3) It can help fix your bad habits. Being in public more often will stop yourself from acting in a way which could give a bad impression from others.

4) For people struggling with dieting, many campuses have a gym, or at least walking around will fix the sedentary life style. Moreover, there isn't a refrigerator full of food in close distance.

5) Being in an environment of more people rather than alone will enable you to socialize more and give you more social experience, and allow you to meet more people.

I agree that this is wise advise.
