Nursing school or st. john's college?

I'm really interested in the curriculum at St. John's College. You'll have to look it up if you're not already familiar with the program because it's a very unique place. The problem with St. John's is that after it I'd have to go to graduate school and I'm not confident in my ability to hold a job that doesn't have very clear guidelines and expectations. Nursing seems to be a career where it'd be much easier to find a job and where I'd be able to fulfill my job duties successfully. I think I would enjoy it as a career, but is it practical to forgo any foray into academia despite my desire for pursuits of the mind?

I'm 19 and had to leave the first college I was at after a suicide attempt. I was feeling very socially isolated leading up to that attempt. I'm not sure if I can safely go back to a normal college anyways. I'm very scared about my uncertain future and disappointed that I have so many mental health problems getting in the way of a normal experience.

Does anyone else relate or have advice?

Go for nursing. I had a fantastic experience in undergraduate and now feel awful and am having to walk away from graduate school. Nurses always have jobs and job security. It's tough but nurses are always in demand.

Only going into nursing if you really, really want to do it (a.k.a. don't do it just for earning potential) Depending on where you are, getting a job isn't any easier than any other field - healthcare in general is experiencing major financial difficulties as well.

Nursing can be an extremely political and volatile field as well, certain parts of it can be difficult for those on the spectrum. In general, it has a high burnout rate due to the workload/interpersonal relations. If I was going into nursing, I would look at either surgical or research nursing. But that's me.

If you have the opportunity to attend St. John's, do it - I would have thought about it if I had the money/G.P.A.

I was also very tempted by St John's. It sounds like a great place from everything I've heard. I especially like the lack of focus on grades (being surrounded by pre-meds is hell... they care for nothing else but easy grades) but unless you are independently wealthy or have connections that will hand you a management position on a silver platter it's just not a practical choice. If you were interested in going to law school or getting an MBA, then the St. John's curriculum is a reasonable preparation, but if your intentions lie anywhere else it will cripple you.
