i just began 2nd quarter in 7th grade, and we have special classes on 12 week rotate, in 2nd quarter, i have my first year of health class, our health teacher told us that we are going to be making posters on our choice of a non-communicable or communicable disease/syndrome/ect. i have chosen to do Asperger's Syndrome, though it isn't due until feb. 27th (the last day of the 2nd quarter) she wants us to start right away on our own, we don't have to, but the earlier the start, th more points it will be worth, and the extra points for it are tottally free, though i should be an expert, i know very little, i would appreciate posts with any info you can give...

thank you...

Some sort of visual design? How much text can you involve?

You got any ideas in mind for how you wanna take it?

Ever think of drawing how you percieve stuff? Maybe a picture of a cat with a toung (taking stuff litterally); A head with hands over the ears (sensory overload), someone rocking back and forth (for me comforting)

Most people don't know what having AS would be like, so be sure you make analogies to explain what happens. Also, don't forget to mention that some people with AS can function well enough in society and the world to live independently with minimal help.

Ah, the seventh grade Health project. *happy nostalgia* I did AS too, actually. It was about a year after I'd been diagnosed, and I wanted the excuse to read up more on it. I even got to read all the information my middle school brought in to deal with me since my school library had a grand total of 0 books on AS at the time.

Good sources... well, I like the OASIS handbook, and Tony Attwood is supposed to be good. Try reading them. What else do you want to know? If you compiled a list of questions, I'm sure several people here would answer them, and then you could have an actual survey of people with AS to stick on your poster. I'm sure that would definitely net you some bonus points.

Right, well, symptoms should be easy to find; those are all over the Net and all over AS/autism books. (Use books where possible--they are more credible sources than the Net.) History is another thing that should be good for getting from books. If your school library hasn't got any, request them from the public library. Do you have a card? If not, borrow your parent's. Libraries often have online catalogs that allow you to request any book in the state system and have it delivered to your library these days. There should be a link on your library card. Find the site and do a search, and within a week you should have access to a wealth of information.

Famous people... hm, I've heard everything from Newton to Einstein, etc. Isn't there a list up on Wikipedia or something?

In regards to famous people, it is very difficult and oftentimes inaccurate to diagnose historical people with various conditions.

For the basic research, I would start at the CDC area of the site for autism. Also KidsQuest has a small section on ASDs and can be useful. This is geared more towards elementary or middle school aged kids, whereas the first URL is geared towards older people.
