I plan to attend college in the near future, and I am wanting to know some of the other dangers that occur on college campuses besides sexual assault/rape and school shootings. I remember the 20 April 1999 Columbine High school shooting and the 16 April 2007 Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (aka Virginia Tech) shooting, to this very day, and I have always had a terrible fear of going to college, and being - either a living witness to a school shooting - or fall victim to a school shooting. I have had several close-calls with injuries. I slipped and fell on ice and cut my hand - real bad - when I was 5 while I was with my mom and sister walking to a nearby Kroger when we didn't have accurate transportation, and in 2006 I had a gash put in my scalp on Halloween night by the metal clip on a clipboard, and those close calls I will never forget.
If I could get some names of other crimes committed on University/College campuses, I can be sure when to look for signs to make sure if, out of possibility, my life is being threatened or not.

- Appalachian School of Law Shooting. This probably never got beyond local news because the shooting was stopped by armed students.

-San Diego State DEA Raid

-Second Virginia Tech (2011)

-2012 Oikos University Shooting in Oakland, CA. Seven people killed execution style.

-Countless numbers of date rapes. (an everyday occurance pretty much)

-Doing and dealing dope.

-Plagiarism (not really a crime but it can get you expelled)

-Underage drinking

-Criminal transmission of HIV

-...and more

Here are some general statistics from USU about their crime rates. I'm certain other universities probably provide similar documents.

http://dps.usu.edu/police/htm/annual-reports

After you open the PDF documents you have to scroll down a few pages to get past the campus police giving an introduction to get to the actual statistics.

I haven't had too much personal trouble with stuff. I once witnessed what looked like either a very poor taste physical flirtation or an assault (still kicking myself that I didn't stop to ask the gal which it was and if she needed me to be a witness against the person for a police report). And once someone unscrewed the quick release lever for my front bike tire. Either they were a very stupid bike thief who didn't bother checking that I had both wheels secured with a double lock arrangement or they were simply trying to hurt me by making sure my front wheel came off while I was biking down a large hill and high speed. Fortunately I am very observant of my bike and noticed that the release lever was sticking out so I was able to fix it before I tried going anywhere. Could have been very dangerous if I hadn't looked.
