College education is overrated, its just a factory, another system of control and ignorance. People have no more common sense, no more principles, no more decency. I just hate almost everyone, and I hate college.

Yeah it is  Some of the best thinkers like Bill Gates dropped out. Einstein hated school. I thought it would be worth it since I'm in engineering, but I found out the material has nothing to do with my future job since it's all theoretical. Anyone who doesn't drink is considered a loser, even at prestigious universities like Harvard.

Sorry your school sucks. The best education is a self-education, and you can still do that within the college framework. Besides. you'll have a very useful piece of paper at the end!

Not really sure what your specific grievances are though.

I happen to be getting a LOT out of my public university education.

Discouraging that people don't realize what Gates did, after all these years.

He was from a wealthy family, and had his Harvard education paid for. He used the Harvard computers to write his first BASIC product (via an emulator, which was a well-known way to write software at that time), and when it was successful he dropped out to start a company. Had he failed utterly, he could have just gone back to Harvard. He literally could not fail. He had an opportunity very few people will ever have, even if they are equally brilliant.

I think that some university programs are over-rated compared to just going to a community college but it really depends what you take. I find that community college is usually more hands-on with more field placement experiences and you're more likely to get a job after but as I said it depends on the university program.

I don't necessarily think college itself is over-rated though. Some people are more academic and benefit from going to college, some people are more hands-on and knowledge ready and prepared to go straight to the workplace. It really depends on what you want to do in life.

A college education may result in unemployment; lack of a college education will almost certainly guaranty it.

Would you rather work in one?

As opposed to prison, the military, politics, corporations, the welfare system, or becoming a religious leader ... ?

A college degree can cure that.

Yeah, those cheerleaders wouldn't go out with me, either.

Who is this 'almost' that is the lucky recipient of your love and admiration?

Then drop out and make room for someone who loves it.

I've experienced both the college and university set up in the UK, and in my experiences it is very over rated. Especially university, I feel sorry for the students down in England. Paying thousands in tuition to an institution just to teach yourself, all for that magic piece of paper that says you're adequate for your field of work without any proper experience. With requirements of entry being so low (in my country at least), literally anyone that can handle a school environment can get a degree. Not sure how much it makes you stand out now to be honest.

Some college educations are useless. BS degrees like gender studies, men's studies, ethnography.

Some are worthwhile that provide skills you need in the real world.

These degrees AREN'T worthless if you have the social skills to go with them

Even engineering is useless since I will have to re-learn everything at my first job.

Yep. But unfortunately they might not be able to BS their way into a job with a mail order diploma. Thus they go to college.

What are your interests ? What do you want to do with your life ? A college education can open up a wealth of opportunities depending upon what you choose to do. In fact, in many professions a college degree is needed to practice in the field as well as for career advancement. In addition, the knowledge and experience gained by pursuing an education is both personally and professionally gratifying.

You can't worry about the lack of common sense, principles, and decency in others.... to the point that it hinders you from accomplishing your goals.
