Disclaimer: I know that many teachers are good and dedicated people. My argument is mostly with the mentality of respecting those who have done nothing to deserve it.

Does anyone else here hate that many teachers view themselves as superior to their students simply because of their age and job title? I do.

There is a teacher at my school who casually insults people, sneers and clicks her fingers close to people's faces while constantly correcting people because she thinks they are being disrespectful, even though she is much more so. She is a disrespectful hypocrite.

Here is a list of reasons why I feel the way I do:

* Teachers often demand respect they haven't earned

* Teachers continually forget things and turn up late, although they feel it is acceptable to punish children for the same reasons

* In the past, several teachers who obviously aren't aware of the difference between Asperger's and mental retardation have patronized me and denied me the equal rights my NT classmates enjoyed

* Some teachers punished me for my AS tendencies and refused to believe my true accusations of bullying

One final point I'd like to make is about pointless homework. I understand that it is sometimes necessary but often, it just seems like pointless busy work. Also, why should someone with executive function issues have to live in fear of being screamed at and publicly humiliated for not completing aforementioned pointless busy work when many teachers committ the same heinous crimes without concequences?

Does anyone else here share my views?

It's the unions, man. Get rid of their collective bargaining units and watch them toe the line! Heck, they may even start teaching so well that kids actually start learning.

Would they have been right to deny you equal rights if you were in fact ret*d?

No, it wouldn't be right but it does happen. The reason I included both points in the same paragraph is that even when I was nine years old, teachers often showed me things I was more than capable of doing at the age of three, such as, opening drawers and washing my hands! I was also dragged by the wrist a few times even when it would be considered completely inappropriate to do that to a Neurotypical of the same age.

Teachers often removed me from situations which they thought would excite me too much when I actually have impeccable self control when it comes to excitement. Strangely enough, they [i]never[i/] removed me or other Autistics from situations such as singing practice which seemed pointless and sensually overloading.

I admit that the paragraph referred to by Who_Am_I was rather poorly constructed. Apologies for any confusion.

Yes, and I have done some teaching myself and hated my coworkers because they were like this. I seriously think that it's a job some people choose because they like power, as with police (in both cases there are good eggs, too, but it does seem to be attractive to controlling types).

i can relate to a lot of what you are stating. i have always loved learning but never enjoyed school. sadly, the school system does not do a very good job in advocating and including children with ASD into classrooms and providing students with effective social and emotional tools. just another reason to become a teacher :)
