It is now time to register at some of the schools I applied to. But I still have not received a student loan, because my parents won't let me. They expect me to pay for my tuition using nothing but my savings. I may not even get to go to school this semester.

I could get a student loan on my own, but my parents will find out. Every time I try to make a decision on my own, they get angry at me or try to stop me.

And I am starting to suspect that they don't even want me to finish school.

they can't tell you what to do. You're an adult and why are they treating you like a child?

I don't really know. I think they use the fact that I have AS to treat me like a kid.

And it may be too late to apply for on-campus housing, and I cannot afford to live off-campus (except for maybe at Boise or Montana, since the cost of living is lower in those places, than it is at the schools in Texas).

Whoa! My parents opposed and sabotaged my every effort at higher education, my whole life long! Do NOT let this happen to you! Can you reach out to counseling or something, so you won't have to rely on family for guidance? You'll need support to break free - it's *so* important!

Plus both of their geology programs are excellent. I could not get such good hands-on experience at the University of Houston.

After I get settled wherever I go to school, I hope I can reconcile with them as soon as possible, and that they will realize that I need to be in charge of my own decisions.

Now I might have to sit out another semester because of my parents. There's nothing I can do.

They accuse me of being "stubborn" if I make any decision other than the ones they want me to make. They already cheated me out of Hawaii, and they are cheating me out of all these other schools as well.

I have to go off to college to get away from my parents, but I have to get away from my parents in order to go off to college. They put me into a no-win situation.

That sucks. If they think you're being stubborn, tell them that you'll truly act stubborn for a day, and let them compare. I find that it may help give them a kick in the pants to get them back to reality. If that doesn't work, give 'em a long speech on how you're feeling, and how you feel they are treating you, what with all this cheating business.

And if THAT doesn't work, I'm all out of ideas. I, personally, would isolate myself in my own room for a day or so, with little contact to the culpriats.

I tried the long speech, but they still won't budge. They wouldn't let me drive until I was 21, and would only let me get a 2-year technical degree--I ended up giving in to that demand. My parents are completely insensitive to my feelings.

Talk about ironic. That could be a point to show. I wish I could help you out. I need to get some plane tickets to wherever you live...

Did your parents give you a reason why they don't want you go? I know it took 3 years to get my parents to let me tranfers to Wisconsin. However, after looking back at it, I'm glad they waited because I was able to handle going away to collge so far way. So I can understand some of your pain. That being said, the really question is are you ready to go? I know that sound a little dumb but it might help you to focus. One thing that might help, is have you figured everything on going way to college like where you live, money, and other things like that. If you have a like a plan, you could show it to your parents so they could see that you are ready for this step and you know what you are doing. I hope this helps you. If you have any more questions just ask me. (I'm online most of the day so i would get it.) I wish you luck and keep us updated.

It looks like I will be sitting out another semester, because my parents are a**holes. If my parents had let me go off to college when I was 18, I could have had my degree when I was 22. I could already be gainfully employed, and not limiting my girlfriend search to other Aspies (because I feel that only another Aspie will tolerate the fact that I am older than 22 and still in college, and that going to college might mean being unemployed--and NTs do not tolerate unemployment in a mate if he is older than 22).
