Wish me luck retaking this class...
The professor here uses a wacky grading scale that I suspect he doesn't intend to follow from day 1, posts NO notes online, has terrible handwriting, is vague about what will be on tests, and likes to make it sound like students are doing worse than they really are. It is almost impossible to know where you stand in this class. Last year, I dropped it in March not wanting to risk a D or F after getting a D (at least according to his wackjob grading scale) on the midterm exam.
It is the last CS course I need to graduate. I haven't gotten anything worse than a B+ in years, but I think a C, D or even an F is a REAL POSSIBILITY in here. The good news is that if the rest of my grades are A's, I can get a D in here and graduate with honors. It'd still be nice to get at least a B so it doesn't look like senioritis...
The worst part is that should the worst happen and I fail, it will delay my graduation by a YEAR. It's only offered in the spring.
A = Amazed (either at how much better I understood it or how much he curved)
A- = AWESOME grade under the circumstances
B = Better than I expected to do
C = Can breathe a sigh of relief that I passed, at least
D = Degree, with honors, but it may look like senioritis
F = ****ed over by having to wait till 2014 to retake the class - and I'd need another full-time semester to put a 3.65 GPA within mathematical reach again.
Normally, grades stand for the following to me:
A+ = Awesome
A = A job well done
A- = Acceptable
B+ = Bit low
B = Barely excusable
B- = Bummer
C+ = Crummy
C = Crap
C- = Christ, that's awful!
D+ = Damned horrible
D = Death
D- = Doomed to a third-rate job for life (Grades DO matter to employers in this field)
F = Forever barred from ANY job, except possibly McDonald's
