Difficulties with education
Hey, I'm new to these forums and I have a problem I'd like to share to perhaps gain some advice. For the past two years I've not been able to hold down a course. I've done a-levels, btecs, distance learning courses - even attempted a degree at a university - but my mental health keeps letting me down and I have had to drop out every single time. I'm intellectually capable of these courses, I'm just wondering if there are any places in the UK that cater for people with mental health issues, where I could complete my education in a place that offers more support? Any responses would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Oh that's bad. My experience has been - that I have to work around any problems at university, no-one can do that for me. Course co-coordinators and professors are too busy to help me, or even understand what my challenges are really. My advice would be, be patient with yourself - take your time to plan your moves in education - Take an individual elective paper to get you started, spend some time on the university grounds getting use to the place. Get to know the admin, and the maintenance staff because you never know when a squeaky door or flickering neon light will be wreaking your life... Take responsibility for your needs, use the existing systems to plan an education that suits you. I wasn't ready to start university until I was a 26 year old with a child of my own, I graduate this year and I'm 33 - that's what I mean about being patient with yourself, you can only do what you can do.
