At first I had no problem with it. I respect islam as a religion and admire many of the principle tenets. However it now is activating my misophonia and this is going to get worse in my experience.

How do I ask him to pray more quietly????

It may be too touchy a subject. Is there a specific room in the house that he must pray in? Are there other rooms he could use for prayer?

I just had a post removed from this thread which said he (your housemate) could go back to "IZLAPHOMIA!! !! !". I hope that was too stupid to be interpreted seriously, but apparently not.

So here is the rest of that post, without any silliness.

In your tenancy agreement, there should be a clause about 'quiet enjoyment' of the property, which means exactly what it says.

He s of course perfectly welcome to find a house where his praying is not only not considered a disruption, but is perfectly welcome to his fellow housemates.

Pointing out this clause in your contract should help no end with whatever authorities you must interact with.

There is no reason why someone with your disability should have to put up with that sort of thing.

It may be however that your landlord is a Muslim, in which case you are probably stuffed.

I trust that this post now passes the PC sensors and will be approved.

At an indoor mall here in Seattle, they get together and pray right near the food court. People walk by and look at them but I guess their rights supersede all rejections.

Try loudly praising Jesus while he's trying to sleep, with lots of loud Hallalujahs! and Amens! :study: Don't forget to play Cristy Lane hymns at high volume. Maybe throw a few snakes around.

You could draw and hang cartoons of Mohammed around the place. Like, pictures of the prophet showing his butt with a tattoo saying "Pray to THIS!"

Or just sit in a chair and stare at him the whole time he's chanting, while crunching pork rinds. :pig:

I think you just need to directly tell him you're Aspie or Spectrum or however you feel most comfortable describing yourself. And then just politely and directly ask him, Do you think there's anyway you could pray more quietly.

And be prepared to briefly and matter-of-factly tell a little about misophonia. And if he's interested in the Asperger's-Autism Spectrum perhaps at that point take the time to go look for some videos on youtube.

If this is on a regular predictable schedule, you could just play games with headphones on or something.

I don't even know how long these prayer sessions are or how frequent.

I'd say tell him about your misophonia, being sure to give examples of other triggers. And bring that up before asking him to pray more quietly, not vice versa. If he can't or refuses, maybe you could get him to always pray at the same times during the day and in the same place. Then you can be sure to be in a room on the other side of the house (maybe you could still hear it, I don't know) or using headphones or earplugs at the time.

I believe as a Muslim he already has specific times during the day he has to pray.

Moving out as we had mold issues too! No longer an issue! Hopefully this thread will help someone else in the same situation. Thanks for all the advice :- )
