I'm a parent with an aspie about to graduate; we are looking into some of these. Your opinions as actual students who've been part of any of these would be truly valuable. Be candid; your experiences are important!

Thank you all, and best wishes in your studies!

What type of transition program? There are several different types that I know of personally. There are the ones that you do as a sort of extension to high school done at private schools or in the public school system. Then there are the ones that are at or associated with regular mainstream colleges that vary in the degree of support that they provide, from a couple hours a week with a counselor to a full time program where the student lives with other AS students a d the entire day is structured with academics and life skills. ( the full time ones that I've heard about are usually off campus programs that are not actually affiliated with the university per se, but provides a program that includes the student taking classes at the university.) Then there are the ones that are just transition programs, by which I mean that they are not a part of another school etc. These usually have a structured day with tons of supports for all areas of life. The programs focus on social and life skills, and some have an option for students to take classes at a local community college as part of the program.

It depends on the need of the student. I just finished a year doing a program at a local university in which I met with a strategy instructor 3 times a week to work on anything from social skills, to studying for an exam, to study skills and time management, to just day to day stuff that came up that I had a question about or needed help with. I had a really great strategy instructor and I learned and grew a lot over the 2 semesters.
