I wonder why there is no academic study on computer games, but I do not mean the programming, because they are studies in computer science. I mean computer games as a cultural phenomenon. I myself studying Library and information science, there is also a film studies whose focus is film and its impact on culture. For you do not have studs on computer games, I would definitely earned the title of Professor in that :D

They are a relatively new thing, probably society just hasn't caught up.

Because most video games are nothing more than a variation on running around and killing people.

There are studies done on computer gaming and its impact on the individual and social systems. I read a couple during my anthro degree.

Most people, rather than study it, experience it :)

The computer science departments of many schools have classes in video game design. I don't know that it merits its own major, considering how many aspects cross over into other areas.
