Public. I had a mix of regular and remedial courses. No real special classes, but, the remedial courses were a mix of special ed students and students with behavioral issues, which was why I was there.

I was a "special ed" student from nursery school (explicitly called "brain-injured nursery school), to 5th grade. Nothing really stood out. I was disciplined quite a bit. The kids used to bother me, I used to throw tantrums. In first grade, I was in public special ed. The kids had all kinds of disorders within one class: autism, deafness, intellectual challenges, etc. From 2nd to 5th, I went to a private school for kids with all kinds of disorders. It still exists today. It was known as the Summit School. You could research it.

I went to "regular school" from 6th through 8th grade with decent academic, but poor social results. I was almost expelled for getting thrown out of class repeatedly for "calling out."

From 9th through 12th grade, I went to a high school for "gifted underachievers." There was little structure. I probably would have benefited from more structure.

In college, I went as a "regular" student, and graduated Magna cum laude (at the age of 45, it should be noted).

I went to a preschool that had a program there for kids with disabilities and I was getting help with my language until the state cut those programs for small children so we moved to Washington where they had a school for kids with developmental delays that was run by the school district and I went there for two years. Then at age six I went to public school that had self contained classrooms so I was there for two years and then I was put in another public school and I went to special ed to catch up on my education I missed. Then I remained in special ed except for 5th grade and then in 6th grade I was back in it again and then I was taken out of school for a few months because I was falling apart. Then in 7th grade through 12th, I was in the resource room. I was there full time in 7th and 8th grade and then I was in regular classes in high school with my aid.

I've been in public my whole "schooling career", and have always been placed in the advanced classes. The teachers could never find a place to put me. I was too advanced for the regular classes, but didn't do work I deemed stupid when in either levels.
