Ok Here's my Situation (Sighs)
Here are my goals and my parents as well.
Goal: Living on my own independently. My own apartment my own job my own life.
Goal: Getting my Diploma Very very very important goal cause I want to go to College.
Goal: Working a steady job
Heres my situation I go to a boarding school near philly PA for people with AS and similar Disorers.
Problem. I feel they are holding me back and steriotyping me cause I have AS. They treat me like a I am some sort of well you kow....
I am on like an internship program at there I am doing a fantastic job the managers love me they say I am an excellent worker I have alot of great job skills ect ect... the school has been getting nothing but great reports I also have REAL job experiance. I have had 3 jobs already with no help I got them all on my OWN and was fine. So I ask if I can get a REAL job and they said...why dont you wait a little longer. I said is there a reason why I cant get a job? I have had excellent reports. they said. Why dont you wait.
ok cenirio number 2
I Feel I am very independent now..... I wasnt about a year ago but I have grown alot through time But I CANT live on my OWN yet. Cause you have to go through these stupid procedures. It goes First Dorm life.. than apartments which is living in a dorm cause you still have "staff" there.
In my IEP meetings they didnt even think of what I say they just "overule my thoughts" which is pretty screwed up...cause it is my life.
I am really sick of having them control every little thing I do... my parents think that school is like gods gift to earth....they do whatever the school says
I get into arguments with my folks all the time.. my father said well if you come up with a "plan thats obtainable right now I have no problems supporting you" .
heres what I want to do. I want to find out if theres any schools anywhere I prefer California that are the right envirment (like you know stress wise. cause I am very intelligent. I just get overwhelmed easily and have sensory issues.) that would allow me to live on my own.
Im tired of it all. I want to move out of the state go to school get my diploma live on my own and have a job....I want to be my own man sort of speak...
oh and comments like I am acting childish wont help my concerns...
I really couldnt handle being at this school for another year or two! I mean Im 18! time to move on!
sorry for the rant guys. but do you guys have any Idea where I can get some info????
help would be greatly appriecated
thanks
Devin

I didn't move out of my parent's home until I was 21, and got a full time job
In another state 1200km away. I had to prove to them I could live on my own too.
It's a lot easier to study, when you don't have to worry about supporting yourself ie working a job to pay the rent and power bills and food etc. But lots of students do go out on their own, work, study and all.
If you can be patient, stay until you get into college, and then there is usually some sort of student accommodation available. You still have to do your food, they charge you rent, but you don't have to worry about who pays the power bill or finds the plumber if the toilet breaks.
You don't need to rush things.
It's not because you're aspie, it's because you're young.
My daughter couldn't wait to move out, and then when she had the chance she turned it down. Being in highschool is awfully young to be out on your own. Most kids....even the most gifted just aren't ready yet. I think you are in a safe place now, I think...and this is just my opinion, take everything you can get from that school, believe me, you will have plenty of time to grow up and be selfsufficent, and it comes faster than you realise and with a very high price. Enjoy your childhood, you only have one, and just keep doing what you are doing, don't stop dreaming, don't stop setting goals. My daughter did move out at 20, she moved to Panarama City, close to Los Angelas. Her studio apartment cost her $740.00 per month, she really struggled, working, school, sleeping????? Sleeping was a luxury. I went to college full time and worked 30 hours per week. I wish I didn't have to work so much, but I did. I live in California, it's great here but VERY EXPENSIVE. I hope you do come out here sometime, but I think you should wait a bit. Because when you come out here, you should be able to enjoy it here. I think you are doing the right thing in looking at options and making plans, but your childhood and teen years are preparing you for adulthood. If you rush to much, you won't be ready and you would have missed out. Hope this helps.
