Hey so I'm a computer science major and I'm thinking of changing my major. Every single assignment has me freaking out and I'm just starting out. I don't know if I can keep this up at all. I'm thinking of changing to cyber security or political science. I think that if I go into software development as a career, I'll have a nervous breakdown at some point, if not before college is over. I really don't think that staying the course is a good idea right now.

If you change majors, it is good to do so early on, because she schools have a Max unit limit

Tuition costs $$

School takes time, money and energy

At UCSD, fourth (4) year undergrad, the school kicked me out of structural engineering

Because of the Max unit limit , and $$, there were only a couple of majors left:

Critical gender studies, psych, cog sci, philosophy

Yeah I'm a freshman at a community college.

I know. I just can't see myself doing something this stressful for 50 years.

It just seems like, outside of computer science, the solar system doesn't contain many jobs suitable for autistics

I know. That's why I'm thinking of cyber security instead. I think I'd deal with people even less.

Cyber security sounds easier than computer science

But I have done neither one

My school, UCSD and BCC did not have Cyber Security

Poly sci doesn't have many jobs

Wish I majored in accounting at BA

Yeah I really wish that wasn't the case because politics, history and computers are my special interests.

I think it's tough for us as ND to separate what could be a career interest or just a passing fascination (it is for me anyway). I'm currently in my 3rd year of Astrophysics, last year I had the same worries as you. I was doubting whether all the stress and stuff was worth it but after talking to a bunch of my lecturers and reading around on the other stuff I was interested in, I came back to Physics.

My advice: try and actually learn about the stuff your thinking of changing too, by whatever method you choose. If it bores you, you know it isn't right. Also think about how interested you've been over time. For example I knew I'd been fascinated with Physics since I was 14 in high school, so it was likely it was just a temporary freak out.

Whatever happens you can't really go wrong, I always tell people who doubt their degrees to just follow whatever their interested in.

Good luck and hope it all works out.

I've been interested in computers and programming since I was 14, but I think I'll take a cyber security class next semester, if only because I've heard that it's important to know some either way.

Hi, i had the same situation. I studied on electronics department, but had no idea about how i connect this with my future life. And i changed me specialty. The next department was computer science and i really liked this. To my mind the most important is some background and i think course is a good idea. You can read book and use some forums and platforms for some questions. Dont doubt please and i thinks effort is better that nothing. Good luck.
