Any other aspies one here who...
Is there any other aspies who have troubles doing their school work?
When I was in middle school and high school I struggled. The work was hard, I couldn't find answers in text books and answers the questions on my work sheet. The math was hard, I didn't know how to do algebra and I couldn't get it or grasp onto it. The story problems were hard and I couldn't figure them out. I couldn't figure out if I had to divide or multiply or add or subtract. I remember I used to be good at them when I was little but then in forth or fifth grade I started to get bad at it and mom told me I was never good at them. When it comes to writing a page on something, I have troubles with it because I wouldn’t know what to write or say and I get writer’s block. I struggle with reports too because I find them hard to do. I don’t always understand what I’m reading and therefore I don’t know what’s going on in the book. When I was in elementary school I used to be able to do work on my own but then starting fifth grade, I started to struggle because the work was starting to get hard and it got worse and worse as I got older. Then I needed help in everything except for PE, choir, art, Spanish, drama and script writing. I only had help with the drawings and a story idea. In choir my teacher helped me with a report I had to do on something in the 1920’s when we were studying the 1920’s and charlston and each student had to do a report on something.
My whole life I’ve always got help on reports but all kids did then but as they get older, they can do it on their own.
I started to think I was ret*d when I was 14 but no my mother told me it’s because I have aspergers so it makes me have troubles with my school work. She told me it was all abstract and I’m a concrete thinker so that’s why I struggle and my aspergers makes it hard for me to learn. But I never bought that the fact unable to do school work on your own is a aspie thing because I talk to lot of aspies online and they could do it on their own, heck they even went to college and with me, it be hard as hell because I need extra help and I ask them if they ever struggle and they say they do it on their own with no extra help and I envy them. That’s why I chose not to go to college because I know it be worse than high school because the work is harder but if I want to go so bad, then I’d go but face the struggle and the problems all over again. In high school, my work had to be modified. I know you can get extra help in college like you do in high school and middle school and elementary school when you have a disability.
I have suspected I have a learning disability but I’m surprised it’s never been mentioned in my records or even suspected by anyone. I’ve only been told the work is too abstract to that’s why its hard for me. Anyone else had or has the same problems as me?
Is it really an aspie thing?
During elementary through primary school, I only ever found math and chemistry difficult, and even in math and chemistry I was apparently able to learn enough to make A's and B's. In college, however, I have considered the possibility that my high school's classes were bit soft vis-a-vis those of other high schools', particularly the ones in the metro area in which my college is located and whose alumi I have spoken with. I do not know for sure, but I have a feeling that for some college majors, even if you aren't a super-genius, if you simply do the work (stay organized, on time, and study and memorize stuff when necessary) you will make at least C's, no one will be able to prevent you from passing, and, by the end of four years, you will have something very substantive to show for it, in the form of a diploma. From what I've read on the Internet, just having a college diploma in any major will get you attention from many more companies with well-paying job offers than if you were without one. Because of the organization, timeliness, and memorization required to get a college degree, I can see how a college diploma would signify to potential employers that its owner has the qualifications and precedent to be able to do those things and that its owner might bring these things, usually very beneficial towards professional and semi-professional jobs, to their business if hired. likedcalico, a basic degree you can get, which doesn't require much math beyond statistics, that you might find appealing if you have an interest in the subject, even if you weren't the best at school in the past, is sociology. It opens up opportunities in social work and criminal justice. Also, from AIM chatting with you I know you've taken some art classes. And I've seen your artwork, which is better than some of the art students' around here. (That said, you don't have to be the next Monet or Grandma Moses. ) If that continues to be an interest of yours, you might try looking into an art major or art history major. I've been learning that, in the past, such majors, those in the liberal arts, did not correlate to as much resulting increased employment opportunity as they do nowadays. In fact, these days, just having a degree in /something/ gives you better chances at a more gainful job. But college isn't for /everyone/. I know a lot of people who are doing just fine financially and, more importantly, are happy without a college diploma.

I couldnt learn in school unless it was a subject i was interested in. Test were out of the question.
I was allowed open book tests in jr high and high school. my brother was majorly mad about that. and I wasnt required to study that much in advanced. on test days I would just go find the answers. and get them right without ever reading the chapters.
when I was in jr high, the teacher placed me in the back of the class so i wouldnt be a distraction to other kids. and on spelling test days I would write the words and fail. not because i spelled them wrong but because i spelled the wrong word (correctly). so they moved me to the front of the class where i could hear better and I passed the test and the teacher accused me of cheating so i retook the test and kept passing.
But failed every other subject there was. Now that i am typing I make more spelling errors because I dont pay attention to the letters, I just type away and press send...
