It was my next-door neighbours, youngest lads first day at school today

It only seems like he learned to walk 5 minutes ago and there he was showing off his uniform to me in the hallway
I think my heart melted

The older one who's recently been diagnosed with autism refuses to wear a uniform so he had his football kit on

It did in Louisiana. My mom was a teacher till she retired & when she started teaching she had to start getting her room ready in the middle of August but now teachers start getting their rooms ready in the begging of August. What really sux is that teachers get a yearly salary that gets divided by 12 to get paid every month & their salary does not go up when they have to go back sooner.

There's not a chance that I would recognise anyone who I went to school with

They always felt long for me. Summer holiday meant working all day six days a week and rarely seeing anyone but my own family except at church on sundays.

On my dad's first day of school, his father saddled up to horses so that he could ride with my father to school. He waited all day at the school and when school let out, they ride home together.

After that, my father rode to school and back mostly by himself. When he was about a mile from the school, a couple of other kids who's route to school matched his for the last mile would ride with him.

It is well known that more boys are found at either end of the bell curve than girls. I think girls have a healthier, non 'g' related, attitude when it comes to education and learning.

I can only remember doing homework once when I was at school

It was a newspaper article and I did it sat up in bed and I can actually remember enjoying doing it

But homework was never really my scene apart from that

I struggle to remember there being specific gangs at my school

I was always a smoker so I suppose the smokers gathered together because we smoked and I seem to remember the "smokers corner" being very crowded

In fact it got so crowded that we had to relocate from behind the gym to behind the science labs

People didn't really make a fuss about smoking back then
