Every time I'm in class at school, I feel like I should not be there. Like I just flat out don't belong there. More often than not, I find myself zoning out and focusing on such trivial things like the little holes in the ceiling panels. I find myself counting them instead of doing my work. I have anxiety issues with school and I miss a lot of classes (I've already racked up 11 absences in each class and you need to miss 16 in any one class to get kicked out of the course) so when I am there I should be working but I can't because the environment is counter-productive for me. The only class I even remotely focus in is Geology. Currently we're studying volcanoes.

I've gone to my guidance counselor before and she's done sh*t all for me. I have a psychologist appointment next month but until then does anyone know any coping methods for school anxiety? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think I have anxiety problems as well, music helps me, i kind of use it as a wall from the world, make my own world or room where whats outside of the sounds isn't real kind of thing. I don't know what else, sorry if I 'm not much help.

I had major problems in school. You sound a lot like I used to be. It seemed like every other day I skipped because I couldn't handle it when I was there.

Then I started doing distance education. It was an absolute godsend and it allowed me to lift myself out of my miserable malaise. You should check to see if there's a program in your area. If there is one, you should give it serious consideration.

You're going to have to go to school--and deal with it. Again, while you do have AS, it doesn't mean that the world is going to coddle you. I would get professional help, but you have to go to school. Professional help isn't going to work if you don't have the motivation to help yourself.

You need to attend school. If your having alot of anxiety there many technics you can try. I find that listening to music, reading, and walking help alot. In a situation where these wouldn't work, namely in a class, you could try some relaxation technics. The school psychologist here at my college taught me one that is based on meditation and deep breathings. Its pretty easy: slowly relax your body starting with your feet and working to your head, feeling the relaxation as you go, then take some slow deep breaths image that each time you exhal you are releasing the anxiety and picture something in your mind that calms you. If your gudience councelor isn't helping you you may need to talk to your principal about it. I would definatly bring your anxiety issues up with your psychologist.
