Yeah, I absolutely hate public school, I am now looking at taking High School from home, on-line. I have been looking at it, does anyone have any advice on one that gives a real diploma that will be accepted by most colleges and businesses? My guidance counciller is looking into it for me, too. Also, how should I approach my parents about this? They will think I will not get enough social interaction if I do this, probably. Does anyone have any experiance with these types of schools?

In most states, you can actually attend college while in high school.

In Kentucky, the public community colleges have banded together and you can actually take classes online (even as a high schooler).

I'm currently looking into cyber school for my 11 year old, but know quite a few kids locally (PA) who are doing high school cyber school. I think that a good chunk of them, if not most, are accepted by colleges. The cost is free -- paid for by the state -- and as far as social life goes, I'm fairly sure that many situations are as follows: class monday thru thursday, then students get together for classes, socializing, or field trips on Fridays.

I've been reading about our local cyber high schools, and they have LOTS of opportunities for socializing. They have many diverse programs -- leadership, performance, languages, etc. Plus, they use web cams so that there is socializing while taking classes on the web -- I get the impression that you get to see the teacher and the other students at times. Very cool.

Find out all the information online for the schools in your area (this is really easy to do), and have all the information ready before you approach your parents. They will be impressed at what you know, and much more inclined to allow you to do this.
