Anyone belong to any? I would like to get into some, but so far it seems like all the popular ones seem to revolve their functions around alcohol, which is difficult for me because I don't drink anymore. I would like to change this and get into some sort of club though. What are you involved in on campus?

I'm in a peer advising club and I volunteer for an educational non-profit that's located on campus.

I'm part of a few societies in my college:
Games, Redbrick (our networking society), Film, Man Utd, and I think a few others.

You can meet a lot of like-minded people in the societies. :)

I live at home and so it is kind of hard to meet people with common interests. Add in the asperger's and it's double hard. :(

So I tried to join a couple of clubs and organizations but there always seems to be something wrong that gets in the way.

Like I could have class during the regular meeting time. Or the meeting time is at night or weekends and I can't stay because the carpool or bus leaves earlier/doesn't run at those times/etc. Or I just get way too busy with exams and such and kind of drop away and get out of the routine of going.

So I don't really belong to any clubs or anything.

I've met a lot of people but they haven't become friends yet. Since I just started the peer advising one, I'm hoping that will change soon.

Nearly all the clubs are either academic or tied to some sort of Christian denomination. That's why I hate the school I am attending.

My school, Midwestern State University, is a state school, but it's mainly students whose parents are too cheap to send them to Baylor (a large Southern Baptist school in Waco, Texas--halfway between Austin and Dallas).

I didn't join any clubs, but last semester I went to the jujitsu club to try it out (too much for me, haha), and I CAN say that it seemed like a great place to make friends. Everyone was really nice and afterwards we all went out for drinks; I even exchanged numbers with a couple of them. And I only went once!

But yeah, it's hard if you don't drink. But I don't think the societies themselves revolve around drinking, do they?

It depends on the club too. With jujitsu, the only real time to talk was at the pub afterwards. Other clubs might be more discussion-oriented so it might be easier to meet people during the meetings.

Yes I went to a university in the midwest and there were basically no groups of interest to join. I did go to a few meetings for one of them, but there were very few people there so I stopped bothering going.

I was involved in a club in college, but didn't really like it. We did some community service events which I did not particularly enjoy.

I met most of the people from college through academics, and studying (often we'd have the same class and study together). I was a science major at a large school, so there were often plenty of people who had to study for the same tests that I had to study for, and I'd meet them in class or at the library.

I'm in a few at my university. I'm involved with the Wesley Foundation campus ministry and Student Activities Council (SAC) [Which is part of Student Government]. In the past, I've been involved with my dorm's Hall Council. With SAC, we show movies for free on Sunday nights, the concerts we put on in the fall and spring, costume balls, things to do on weekends, etc.
