Yesterday, I got my financial aid award package for the upcoming year, and it stated that I am eligible for Federal Work-Study. What all is involved in that?

You get first dibs on the better campus jobs, and the government subsidizes part of your salary so your employer can afford to pay you better. The university should have info on getting a work-study job.

What kinds of jobs do you usually get? Are they usually related to your field of study?

Usually, there the typical campus job. It depends where you go. Many times you can find a pointless little job where you get paid pretty much just for being there, and you can sit and do your homework or whatever. It's hard to get jobs related to your field of study, but that might depend on your field of study. Jobs like that would more likely be internships rather than work-study.

Of course you did, Tim.

I've been a federal work-study for the past two years. My college pays a mere $6.90/hr, but the work is incredibly easy. As Orwell said, you probably won't be able to get a job in your field of study (but ask your professors, by all means). Most jobs you'll find are menial, like filing, library clerical, posting fliers, etc. Most colleges or U's limit you, I believe, to under twenty hours a week if you're a full-time student.
